What is the Value of a S&W 1046?

1046 Wanted

I am in the market for a 1046 to complete a collection.
If anyone has a lead on one...let me know...as I have the motivation and some money set aside for a really nice example of such...and the nicer...the more I will pay.

I have only seen one and I never expected to see one. It was at a local gun show in like new condition for $1200. I was of course broke at the time and couldn't buy it.

I don't know if the void was ever filled but I happen to have one purchased back in the early 90's. Shot it a few times way back when. She has been held up in my collection / safe ever since. I admire it every once in a while just for good measure. I have been contemplating letting her go for years but struggle with the idea. Might be time, if the value is there.

Started up in 2010, ... so Super 1046 Necro-thread! ;)

That said, the last 1046 I saw on GB went for $3K+.

Condition matters, but with only 151 of the model 1046s made, sellers (if they know what they have) will be asking premium prices for this 10XX-series model.

The last two on GB went for 5K and the other for 7K. Bidding war on the last one. I would think that 8K is possible with matching box in like new condition..

s&w 1046

did not realize that the 1046 was so rare, just acquired one. not my cup of tea. probably going to sell it. Any thoughts? I researched it a little bit, pretty interesting pistol.

Rare pistol with 151 made.Lots of 3rd Generation interest lately.Post a few pictures.Even rare items price is determined by condition, accessories and whether they are the same as when they left the factory. Not too long ago I saw a 1046 at a show here at a premium price.Pistol was mirror polished and had a few other abnormalities.Price will also be determined by the market at time of sale.I seem to either sell too soon or too late.

The story behind the 1046 is that is was a contract for a nuke plant (or similar) that was cancelled. During 1990-91, you could pretty much order any configuration you wanted. It was called the gun-of-the-week program. :)

Yep, I heard that it was then Tennessee Valley Authority that ordered them originally for their nuke security team.

Interesting ... I have three NIB 9-rd 10mm mags (i.e., the official factory box for 3rd Gen mags).

They would pair very well with a minty 1046.

I'll take $1800.00 per mag, ... or all three sold together for a mere $5K. ;)

mine is pristine, unfired i believe. trying to secure the original box. this 1046 has zero scratches anywhere on the plastic grips or the pistol. trying to figure out how to upload pics. I am going to sell it. do not know the rules about selling on this forum.

In my opinion you should try and sell on the largest online gun sales. You only have 2 posts and just joined. I would not buy from someone without any history.

S&W 1046

I get it, I'm new on here, the only reason that I am here is because of the 1046, I am also an FFL "manufacturer" I just figured that a true S&W collector would probably want it. I can't figure out how to post pics of the pistol on this forum. Probably just going to list it on local gun trader sites and maybe gun broker.
Thanks and have a great day

This makes me wonder what my 1086 is Worth?

IIRC there were about 1800 of them produced. I have one too and I occasionally think about letting it go because I usually just shoot my "Frankenpistol" that I build from a 1076 frame and 1066 slide because it doesn't really have any collectable value.

Mine's a user without the box and the night sights are completely dead, but I wouldn't even consider letting it go for less than $1000. Whether someone would pay that is another question entirely :)

Wow. It seems that a significant percentage of 1046s are owned by members of this forum. My search continues. Good luck to the rest of you also searching.

* * * S&W designed and began producing a model 1046 (which was the ONLY model of the 10 series to have the DAO instead of the decocker)...
Nooop.

The 4.25” model 1086 was S&W’s “Commander-size” DAO gun. It pairs nicely with the 5” DAO model 1046 you have.
