What is you favorite "Service" type sidearm?

10mm Razorback, Colt Commander, Kimber Pro HD Series1, Kimber Compact Stainless Series 1. All reworked by Chuck Rogers and Nelson Ford.

4 inch .38 Special Colt Official Police would be my choice if I had one service gun to choose from.

BUT, since this is a S&W forum....I'd say pencil barrel M-10 4 or 5 inch with magna grips or M-15 with target grips.

If one automatic to choose from it would be my Springfield Armory G.I. 45 1911A1

SIG P220, .45 ACP
Glock 19 EXO, or 17. Sometimes a 31, 20, or 29 for woods.
Springfield EMP 9mm

New favorite for light duty is the 8-shot SP-101 .22 lr I just bought

USAF issued me an S&W Model 15 way back when; I now have a Model 10 that I really like but I'm also looking at buying a Model 15 for old time's sake. They shoot really well.

Gonna have to say the 4506 for an automatic and a 686/681 for a revolver. I have a Ohio Highway Patrol 681 and it is the cat's pajamas!

Gents,

It depends what mood I'm in. They are (in no particular order):

-Beretta M92DS (My custom-built Pizza Gun)
-My Les Baer TR Special
-My 4566s
-My Model 19-5
-My Model 28-2
-My Model 58

I enjoy the revolving handgun more than the sem-auto, but I'm NOT averse to them either. I carried the DSS Model 19-4 for almost 3-years on Embassy Duty. The K-Frame Combat Magnum, as 18DAI explains has everything you need and nothing you don't.

Just my $.02

Lightly tweaked Colt Series 70, 45 ACP. That's the one that goes on the road with me a lot. BUG: S&W 638.

Well, the one I carry every day, S&W M&P 45 ACP qualifies as my favorite.

Revolver - 686 hands down.

1911, Glock 21 or Sig P220 in .45acp.

Carried each one at one time or another for about 20 years.

Rule 303

For more years than I really care to remember it was a M-19 either a 4" or 2 1/2". I'm almost ashamed to admit that my newly acquired M-586 4” is starting to replace the 4” M-19:eek:.

When I think "service sidearm" the only thing that leaps to mind is a 1911, but then I was a squid, not a cop. ;)

I guess the M9 is OK if you sit to... well... you know. :D

That's a lotta gun for meal protection of a few gourds. :D

My "service" sidearm experience is limited to the Model 15 and the M9. Of these, I prefer the M9 and own and carry variations of the pistol.

Here is a stainless 92FS with a seasonal garnish.

I cut my teeth on revolvers and while I like my 1911's and other autos, the one I have the most experience and time in service with is the K-Frame Smith. A couple 686's have kept me company over the years but lately I've re-discovered the joys of the Models 10 and 64. My latest assignment finds me with an issued M-64 in four-inch trim, and I liked it so much I bought two more just like it. I shoot one or more every time I go to the range, and yesterday saw me chewing through a couple hundred rounds of Plus-P 38 ammo. I don't know if I like it more because I shoot it so much, or if I shoot it so much because I like it!
