What Is Your Favorite Hymn

Not Exactly a Hymn

"Will the Circle Be Unbroken" has been covered by scores of artists and is almost outside the realm of a true church hymn, but the Allman Brothers version is absolutely haunting with Gregg's one of a kind, white soul, blues voice in front of the greatest Southern rock band ever. Never get tired of it.

Be Still...

Be Still My Soul based on Sibelius' "Finlandia".

Man ya'll ask some hard questions.

So I have to add some honorable mentions.

Holy, Holy, Holy

All Creatures Of Our God and King

Be Thou My Vision

Holy Holy and All Creatures are my favorites to sing tenor.

Be Thou My and Be Still because the words hit home.

Purest Hymn Ever

Judy Collins recorded her classic version in 1970 for her Whales and Nightingales Album. The recording was made in Columbia University's resonant St. Paul's Cathedral with an a capella choir of a few friends, including her current boyfriend, Stacy Keach. Collins' pure, vibrato free voice has been described as liquid silver. The choir harmonies are other worldly, especially the soaring tenor harmony resolutions. I cannot listen without tearing up. Typical church hymnal versions groan along, but this version soars.
