What is your favorite S&W auto pistol? Why?

I have always been a wheel gun fan and shot one in PPC for years. I owned an original model 39 back in the day, but was never comfortable with it. I now have a M&P Shield 9mm and love it. Shoots good, very accurate and is an easy carry.

My 645 is my favorite S&W. Upgraded with the 4506 safety levers, so they won't fall off. My daily carry is a 3913 which now has a 5906 hammer, so I can cock it for a single action 1st shot. Next would be my 4516 no dash. Still looking for a 4506/5906 hammer for that one. I've carried Glocks for many years, & while I work for the largest FFL in Florida, & could have anything, it's the metal S&W's I like to carry now. At the gun shows, I work the Ruger, & Springfield section, so I sell lots of XDs, & LC9 guns, as well as Shields too. My house gun is a HK USP 45. It's a tie between that, & my 645 as my favorite gun. GARY

I'm with the OP,.........5946. It's just my favorite shooting S&W and perfect as a 'house gun'. Also a very good understudy for the 3953,.......the perfect 'carry gun'.

I have to say my favorite out of over 20 I currently own, is my 4506-1. Best shooting 45 I own, including a pair of 1911's.

The first thing I thought of was my 39-2. Damned accurate, great lines, feels *just* right in the hand.

The second was my 15-3. I love the look, and people like to come over to take a peek at it when I have it out. I married it to an old-school black holster and it completes the retro law enforcement look.

My favorites are my 1000 series 10mm's. All steel, great shooting. The only thing I do not like is they are single stack magazines.

My favorites are my M41 and M46 at this time but my all time dream gun is the model 627 with the wood grips on it. Sorry its not a auto but a wheel gun but it holds 8- 357's at the same time. Very beautiful gun to even look at.

Having just bought my first S&W auto, a 1006, I have to say it's my favorite. I've shot a lot of friends 9mm Smiths, but I just love the way this one fills my hand. I'm going out to shoot it for the first time this weekend, but I already know I'll love the way it shoots. I've been looking for a nice one for some time, and this one came up locally. It will make an excellent companion to my 610, which was starting to feel lonely, I think. I'll post some pictures of the pair in a new thread tonight.

My 915. Sold all my other 3rd gens. Bought 3 new Mec-Gar mags and recoil spring. It's not my CCW. Just a nice feeling gun in my hand.

Over the last 40+ years I have had many S&W semi-autos. Today I only have one left, and it is a fairly new one. The others (incl. an M41*) I collected and shot occasionally. One by one they were sold for another pistol or rifle, mostly for older S&W revolvers. The one that is still with me:

I carry this one and I shoot it better than any other CCW handgun I have had in the last 30+ years. My M642 is a good second but the flatness and higher number of rounds of the Shield 9... well there's that.

*OK, the selling of the M41 was a BIG mistake. I regret that one still.

"Penultimate" is a 25-cent word that means "next to last." So while I hope you come up with a fantastic pistol, I -really- hope it is not the next to last S&W pistol ever. ;)

My easy pick is my 845, but I don't think that's fair because the 845 is very rare and basically hand-built. And that would make me want to defer to my Model 52-2, but that one is pretty much the SAME way. Both of these pistols are, well, ridiculous.

In the spirit of the thread, I'll take a production S&W pistol as my favorite -- it certainly was before I got those two above.

My S&W 745 fits that bill. It's a later model, non-IPSC Anniv pistol, shipped with a fixed rear sight that a previous owner swapped out for an adjustable. It runs flawlessly, it's extremely good lookin' and it's all grins on a range day.
Can not agree more. I have two 745s with the adjustable rear sights. One has over 30,000 rounds through it and it is "just broken in"!! Dave_n

I only have two; an M&P .380 and the M&P .22C and of the two the twenty-two is my favorite range gun. Both are totally reliable.

I'd have to go with the Model 41. My dealer contacted me a few days ago saying he had just received a new one from the distributor. S&W must have done a recent production run. I now own two of those beauties!
