I don't have any guns at all. I used to, but Dave was going to store them for me and lost them in a boating accident.....

I was a good prole and turned in all mine at a buy back....

I started with a 1911 got several wheel guns after. I like both autos and revolvers, but I shoot revolvers more cause chasing brass is just lame...

I started off with a Ruger Blackhawk .357 Magnum then added a Model 29, a Llama 1911 I carried working for an armored car service. Later I picked up a Model 19 and then tons from there, mostly revolvers.
The only semi autos I have ever owned, my Grandfather's Colt Woodsman which is the only semi auto I own now.
Llama 1911
Ruger P95
Browning Hi-Power (miss that one though)
Beretta Bobcat
Para Ordnance Warthog
Smith 22A (want another one of those)
Walther Model 8

Everything else has been revolvers or the occasional single shot like a Thompson Center.

I started with 1911's. I then found Smith and Wesson revolvers. I would say I prefer revolvers over autos now. I guess I am just old fashioned.

My favorite handgun is my Remington XP-100 in 223. That will reach out and touch something. Don't worry too much about it being a bolt action single shot, seldom need a second shot.

The original Rugers are all gone, been replaced by S&W.

I'm not surprised that on this forum a lot of guys have more revolvers than semi-auto handguns. I fit in that category. I do have semi autos, but prefer big bullets that do the job with less fuss & muzzle blast. The 44 Special and 45 Colt are my favorites, and that means using a wheel gun.

Sir, I'm evenly split. Different jobs call for different tools. That said, though, if I could keep only one, it would be a 1911.

Hope this helps, and Semper Fi.

UMMMMM!
Takes some splainin.
Growing up, it was shotguns and 22's til I was about 15/16 when I bought my own for the first time. Now, it was a different time and a different culture, but I walked in to gerlach's hardware when I was about that age and bought me a .22 revolver. Yup--no paperwork and Ed just sold it to me.
I hardly kept any for any great length of time--traded/bought and sold a lot thru that period. Just stuff that I had a fancy for.
First big bore was a Ruger .38/357 & companion Ruger .22---single action stuff.
I got my first Semi when I was about 20, in school (well, in & out--I couldn't keep my mind on the books) and wanted a gun for my car---old Colt.
I have carried since that time--I'm 72--and it has always been Semi's. Now it was not until about 5/6 years ago that I got the yearn for a roller--now I have about an equal number, but, I don't carry the rollers as much because I normally just stuff my gun in my pants and rollers don't carry well that way.
Blessings

You left out the single shots. My first handgun was a ss 22. I then moved to revolvers and have a few autos as well. A contender with a few bbls gets addicting really fast.

I have roughly equal split revolver/auto...I started with revolvers but my love for good guns spilled over into autos.:)

Thankfully I have a satisfying representation of both because I think prices are going to be stupid for a while...

Thanks for all the looks, posts and poll taking. Found a few surprises, mostly about more revolvers than autos. I almost added something about decades of use and now wish I had. I may have to do another poll to find out if this trend is due to more of us older shooters here or if there is a lot of younger shooters who simply love revolvers!

Wow, that's a hard poll. I need multiple choice.:D
I shoot revolver more now as I am tired of doing the pick up brass dance. When ammo was cheap (I reload) I enjoy semi autos.

As I was a NRA instructor and also taught what we called" practical combat shooting "at my club my advice to a new shooter when asked what should I get for a first gun was.
Get a good quality adjustable sighted 4'' 357 M revolver Stainless if available and learn how to shoot using .38 loads. (This advice was tailored to the complexity and nonsense of NYs gun laws.) That gun could be used for everything which was good if local authorities made each new purchase like pulling teeth.

That was my advice and my first pistol back in 1972 was a Ruger Security Six 4'' 357. Since that time my safe has seen many changes and right now I have about double the amount of SemiAutos over revolvers.
