What powder(s) are you still looking for?

For about a month I've kept novalty's thread open on my phone and I check it several times during the day. Thanks novalty!

I had been looking for 231 for a while with no luck, and finally got 5 lbs from Cabelas through the thread. Since then (maybe 3 weeks ago?), 231 and HP-38 have been popping up regularly. If I had waited a few days I could have gotten 8# for the price I paid for 5#, but I didn't know it was going to be available.

I passed up Bullseye this week at $37/lb from the thread. It's #2 on my list, but I've got a lot of Power Pistol and I can live without it. 2400 is #1 on my list. I'd also like some Red Dot or Blue Dot. It's mostly the Alliant powders I want and can't find.

One thing people should take into consideration is that it appears that powders are produced seasonally. So if they are hitting the shelves now you better try and get them, because it might be several months before another batch is made available. I could be wrong in this thinking, but I believe it is why we haven't seen some powders like: 2400, AA#2 or AA#5 or W231 in awhile. Clays situation was related to the plant fire. Hopefully I am wrong in my thinking, but better to be prepared.

I would add that as far as brick and mortar stores go there seems to be a pattern to where specific powders get shipped to certain regions. When I read threads about finding bullseye, unique, w231 ect. It seems to show up more in the upper midwest and north east. Recently hs6 and trailboss seemed to pop up everywhere (including here in the NW) before it disappeared again.

That's completely anecdotal on my part though. I only frequent this forum and it's a limited sample. I haven't gotten out of this area much to look for powder other than online.

Universal. Along with plated bullets It keeps my .357 clean and shiny and shooting straight. I'm down to about a pound and a half and getting nervous.

Don't give up. Yesterday at an Atlanta area show I picked up an 8 lb jug of Universal. It was $165 + Tax!

I wasn't really looking to buy any W 231, but I called a LGS today and was able to score an 8 lb. jug for $145 + tax! Been years since I've used 231, but I remember it doing a good job, so now I have 8 lbs. to work with :-) Still looking for another 8 lbs. of Bullseye though.

I've been well stocked for 6+ years. I learned my lesson on inventory management (as a gun owner and reloader) under Mr Clinton. I might even slide through the next 6 years without a problem. Increasing age causes less (or shorter) range trips.

The current 223 ammo "crisis" has left me well stocked with brand new once fired commercial and crimped primer cases. Why doesn't anyone want that empty brass case. Sure glad I bought an RCBS X-die for sizing.

I've been looking for Herco and 2230 for 2 years and can't find any. I even wrote the manufacturer and asked them. No results...

2000MR seems to be a powder that was readily available during the height of the powder scare , now jump to presant day and most all powders are back to available yet 2000MR is nowhere to be found. Sucks for me as I worked up some great loads and still have about 8# of 2000MR

4756 would be awesome, Longshot too. Unfortunately I live in the middle of nowhere, no gunshows close by, and the local hardware store tries to get things in, but there isn't huge demand.

I got REALLY excited when I saw H110 here locally. I almost bought 3 containers and luckily googled it first. Turns out it is not ideal for .38 special.

You need to start looking at online sources, I live in the Seattle metro area and haven't bought powder locally for years. What little I see is rifle powder. I haven't had any problem getting what I need by watching Gunbot and a couple of other suppliers that aren't on Gunbot. I'm at a point where I don't have to settle for other than my preferred powder. I have enough to get through the wait until the powder I like to use shows up.

I have always been told that the shipping costs (hazmat?) make it not worth it. If you are having the same issues in Seattle though I should probably get online and do some research. I've been having fun with Unique, but I'm going to run out eventually and would like to try some other powders.

I'd like to locate some CFE223, because I recently put together an AR15. Had I known I was going to do this last summer I could have put together a good stash, because on two separate visits the Fin had 8 lbs. kegs of CFE223 on the shelf. Lesson learned is that when you snooze you lose.

Right now I'm loading with Varget and "tuning" the charge weight with tweezers. Takes me about 1 hour to charge 50 cases this way. On the plus side the accuracy is superb.

PS; if anyone is curious one granule of Varget averages out to be about 0.025 grain. So, with my tweezers I'm adjusting my loads within about 1/2 a granule.

Bought a 8 lb jug of Win 231 and a 8 lb jug of HP-38 today for $130 each so I'm done looking for powder for quite a while. I did see some BE86 on the shelf and was tempted to try it out but figured 16 lbs of powder and a couple thousand primers was enough for the day.

Did you buy them locally in Michigan? If so, would you share where?

Thanks
Mike

Winchester 231, Hodgdon HP-38, HS-6, just to try. Hate to pay hazmat for just 3#, and don't want to buy more until I try them. I love AA#5 and have an adequate stock for 380, 38 and 45, but testing different combinations is in the blood. I've been shooting Unique for 45 Colt, and need to try some alternatives there too.
I'm in the Richmond, Virginia area and haven't seen a pistol powder of any kind in more than a year in a LGS, and any AA pistol in probably two years.

Again this makes no sense....

I just got my first pound of Universal in years. The Australians must have gotten the drier section of the plant fixed. I. hope the end of the longshoremen's strike will unleash a torrent of Aussie powder. My LGS, a small shop seems to be getting more, but popular pistol powders still clear out quickly. The speculators and hoarders are still a factor. Supply and demand at work, distorted by fear, same as it's always been. Too bad that prices remain stubbornly high.

People are seeing Clays powder that just got their plant back into operation yet Alliant and Hodgdon are no where to be seen.

My local gun store is slowly getting pistol powder in stock. They will get a small shipment in, sell it and a week or so later get some more in stock. I have purchased 5 pounds of HP38 and two pounds of W231 (in 1 pound cans) and 3 pounds of bullseye. I had a little bullseye and four pounds of unique on hand. I should be okey for a while. That may be a little too much, but I am tired of being out.

No such thing as "a little too much...."
Even if we don't go through another "panic", having powder on the reloading room shelf is like having money in the bank. Better to have it and not need it than the other way around.

I just purchased two 8 lb jugs of Clays the other week from my LGS. They get Alliant and Hodgdon shipments in on a regular basis. Sounds like you need to find a better LGS.

Are any other .223 powders of interest? I've seen a steady increase in availability of H335 and I've been able to get a couple of pounds of W748. Both of those meter exceedingly accurately for me.

About a month ago multiple LGSs had 10+ lbs of H335. One of the pounds of W748 I picked up at Cabelas.
