Hello. I am currently in the market for a new M&P15. I have mixed feelings on the current available versions, and curious to know, what made you get the model that you ended up with?

It seems the Sport model is very popular, as I've seen them more often. I personally like the look of the Tactical. I would love to hear some opinions. Kind Regards, and thanks in advance.

Sport version here. When I bought mine, I felt it was the best value available at the time. A factory built rifle from a well known manufacturer that backs the product with a lifetime warranty, all for $650.

+1 on what cyphertext said.

also, i wanted to save money as I'm a novice with the AR type rifles and wanted to get into this at an economy rate.

HOWEVER, my Sport turns out to do everything that i want or need. turns out to be so accurate and reliable, she may get a free-float hand-guard for Christmas!

Since I had one stolen b4 Xmas, I Luckily found one just after the holiday
With a gas piston. S&W M&P15 orc. Even at $1125.00 it was a steal! I'm sure the sports are just as well made.

I went with the OR because I liked the idea of the forward assist and dust cover. Yea, they may be useless, but for my first AR I wanted the whole package. Also liked the flat top set up since I knew I wanted a scope. Got mine for $777 courtesy of a find by a member here back in July.

I got the sport for 839 in this current market about a month ago, I was sold when I realized the lower price meant I could trick it out to my liking and because I just love customizing my own guns.

Yep, Sport, quality and affordability. Couldn't beat it for $619.

I like the traditional layout of the 811000. That, and S&W has a good reputation for having dependable products and excellent customer service.

I bought a M&PT on sale so that was my what "sold" me, but I was looking for one anyway. For the price, it's hard to find another rifle that offers what it does and also has a solid company who will back it up.

I then added a sport because I wanted on AR set up for shorter distance shooting and one for long distance.

That, and for the money the sport costs you can upgrade whatever you want and still come out ahead.

I quickly changed out the furniture, and truth be told, I think the sport looks better than M&PT now.

I chose the sport Price /value At te time I was new to the AR Let me warn you they are adicting

+2 with cypher. My son shoots it and his is OD green magpul with a Nikon 3x9. The bonus-it has the 1/8 barrel and it can shoot! He likes it and it is a good looking gun!

If it were me I would buy a basic reasonable priced model like the sport to begin the journey.. You can't go wrong with the sport. Dependable , accurate , will hold its value ..

You can sell it later if desired because you will develop your own mind up as to what kind of AR you want to own.

The Sport is a starting place but is definitely not the ending point. (for most)

I started with a S&W ORC and sold that because I saw I was going to end up with a $2000 ORC . SO I bought a $2100 JP so now I will end up with a $2800 JP .. See the difference..

The chances of buying the exact gun you want the first time is miniscule. (imo)

I chose the OR because it was one that was available...in January. Yep, I paid too much, but I have it. I will wait out a great deal on a second one and will "dollar cost average" the two. :)

Actually, I have an M&P10 on order. It will cost less than my AR15 LOL

Smith & Wesson M&P 15T rifle ...

LGS availability and price. ;)

Recommended highly by LGS staff.

And lastly, the S&W brand recognition and dependability.

But mostly, availability at LGS.

;)

For me it was was what available 2 months ago.
I bought an OR and a 15A so I could see which I liked better. The 15A has the Troy Battlesights which are a plus for me. The OR needs iron sights added, and a good set will run about $150 - $200.

If the frenzy ever dies down I want to pick up a Sport because the value there is unbeatable. Then I want a 10.

I would get the 10 first. :D Take the money you would spend on the Sport and put towards glass for the 10. It deserves some nice glass!
