What the heck happened to Model 39 prices ?

What the heck happened to Model 39 prices?
IMHO, reality set in. Folks have finally figured out that with respect to 1st, 2nd and 3rd Gens, they ain't makin' 'em anymore. Frankly, when I compare a 98% or better 3rd Gen (they're my preference) to a modern new pistol, the pretty 3rd Gen comes out on top. I guess others are starting to feel how I began to feel seven years ago when I caught my 3rd Gen disease. Oh yeah, I also predict higher prices in the near future. ;)

Was in my local Mass. LGS about a year and a half ago. Saw a 39-2 on the shelf. Had to take a look. Came with Orig box, Orig wax paper, manual papers, Mail in warranty card, cleaning kit and 2 mags. It was a consignment gun with some slight holster wear. Asking price of $325. I offered $275 and owner took it so I gladly grabbed it. Was in the same store last week purchasing another shield, in 9 this time, and saw another 39-2. Asking price $749. I was dumfounded. This one was in the same condition as the one I grabbed but no box and 1 mag.

Well......out here in Southern California the 39s and 39-2s are pretty hard to find for some reason. I feel pretty fortunate to have found two of them in the last three weeks. One is a 1971 vintage in excellent condition w/ box, tools and paperwork for $550 and the other is a 1976 vintage also in excellent shape for $500. I'm pretty sure the sellers wouldnt have been too receptive to offers in the $300-$400 range.
