I saw a thread like this on another forum and considered it interesting.
My first was a 1911 in 45 acp.
My dad brought it home from WWII in the Pacific. He was issued it but never used it, so it was brand new packed in Cosmoline.
In the late 50's he cleaned it up and we shot it.
I was about 8 years old at the time. I don't remember recoil being a problem, but since in those days no one knew about ear protection, my ears rang for a week after my first shooting session.
Sadly, while away at college my mom sold it. I wish she hadn't and given it to me instead.
My dad kept it for years in his dresser -- not loaded, but the magazine right next to it.
He took me to a NRA gun safety class when I was 9, so I learned not to play with real guns so this was no problem.
How times have changed.
