I saw a thread like this on another forum and considered it interesting.

My first was a 1911 in 45 acp.

My dad brought it home from WWII in the Pacific. He was issued it but never used it, so it was brand new packed in Cosmoline.

In the late 50's he cleaned it up and we shot it.

I was about 8 years old at the time. I don't remember recoil being a problem, but since in those days no one knew about ear protection, my ears rang for a week after my first shooting session.

Sadly, while away at college my mom sold it. I wish she hadn't and given it to me instead.

My dad kept it for years in his dresser -- not loaded, but the magazine right next to it.

He took me to a NRA gun safety class when I was 9, so I learned not to play with real guns so this was no problem.

How times have changed.

For me it would be this one. My father bought it about 50 years ago. It still sits in my safe in the original box.

First handgun fired was my BYF Nov 41 made Walther P-38. I've loved German weapons ever sense.

An aunt took a bunch of us cousins out to a Sinclair Oil lease to do some shooting after lunch one 4th of July. I was probably 11 or 12 and took my Remington single shot bolt action rifle. A cousin let me fire his Ruger Standard Model .22.

I'm not even sure. I remember shooting some kind of S/A 22 when I was a kid. I THINK it was a Ruger, but that is a SWAG. It might have been anything really. The gun belonged to a friends father, and we'd sneak it out of the house a couple of times and shoot a few rounds through it, then put it back. Nobody ever said anything about it, so they either never found out, or didn't care. We all had shotguns at that age, so it wasn't a big step to shooting a handgun.

The first one I really know about, was a Model 19, 357 but I was in my mid late 20's by then.

I GOT A LATE START, 18 Y/O

I bought & shot my own first handguns, 2 at the same time, both Rugers. A MKl target 22lr and a 44 mag super Blackhawk 1975-76 & can't recall which one I fired first. Both were stolen in Co, while waiting for approval to transfer them to NY when I moved.

My dad's K22, in our Cleveland Ohio basement, 60 years ago!!! He made a safe backstop and bullet trap. That's where I learned most about gun safety.

He later traded the K22 for my first shotgun, a 20ga Lefevre side-by-side which I still have. Ahhh, the memories..............

The first pistol I owned was a Belgian Browning challenger (1). In my mind, the best trigger on any pistol I ever used. One of my favorites is what Ruger used to call a convertible (22 and 22 mag ) 4 5/8" barrel, fun to shoot and a real good snake killer. Next was my Ruger Super blackhawk a killer in kick but a grea hog killer.

I was six and got to fire some kind of air-powered BB pistol.
I missed the large tropical spider that was being shot at. But
everyone else did too. (And they were adults.)

Had to wait till age 12 to fire another shot. Been making up for those
lost six years since.

My first handgun that I bought and shot was my '75 colt python 357 / 6" barrel in blue. Sorry I sold it.

1st gun, python
2nd gun,,colt commander 1911 45acp.
3rd gun,,ruger police service six 357
4th gun,,ruger super Blackhawk 44mag.

My dad bought a new Ruger MK I with a 4-inch barrel in 1963 or 1964. I was 12 or 13 at the time, and it was the first pistol I ever shot. It was shot by all us kids over the years. When Dad died in 2002, I kept the pistol for my younger brother, who had an attachment for it. I handed it over to him several years back, with the understanding that it will always stay in the family.

S&W model 19, 4 inch which was issued to me by my LE agency. I don't think I was the only one who had never fired a handgun on our first trip to the shooting range. No bad habits to undo. Wish I could post a pic of it but I was foolish and poor when we transitioned to semi autos I opted not to buy "that old thing." :(

Pretty sure it would've been Gramp's First Issue Colt Woodsman.
