While my sons were growing up I spent 12 years as a Boy Scout Leader. During that time I took and advanced Scout Leader course called Wood badge where I was assigned to the Fox Patrol.
My hair went completely gray in my early 30s. Its a family trait.
Anyway, it took my fellow Scouters all of about 30 seconds to dub me "The Gray Fox". The nickname just sorta stuck.
March of 1987 I had just purchased a new 20 foot fishing boat. Parked in my driveway, I had one week to get it ready for a 10 day Lake Ontario trip. Of course it snowed and rained all week. Lot of work - Downriggers, electronics, rod holders etc. My elderly neighbor Gordon, came walking over one day while I layed in the snow running wiring, and said "You sure are a fishin fool". I kind of liked the name, and so named my boat "Fishinfool". That boat has put a lot of fish in the box...
After years of riding Japanese sport bikes, I bought my first BMW in 1992, and have ridden that brand since. The nickname for a BMW motorcycle is Beemer...and I was born not long after President Eisenhower was inaugurated for his first term...
I may win the prize for least creative since my real name is Dave. As a (now retired) Baptist pastor I was frequently referred to as Bro. Dave. That title also harks back to the once well known comedian Bro. Dave Gardner.
My final job before retirement was with Pgh Public Schools, doing refrigeration in all the buildings. The Central Food Kitchen had two frozen food warehouses and a bunch of coolers. I spent a lot of time there. Several women warehouse workers who I spent too much time with gave me Jeff Refrigeration to separate me from Jeff, the truck driver. It devolved into trucker Jeff and Jeffrefrig. It’s one of the few things I miss about where I “had” to work.
My initials are P.A. and for 20+ years I had a sound company with a p.a. for rent, and traveled throughout the south with a couple of bands. A player in one band cracked up that my initials were P. A. and I owned a sound company. The nickname stuck with me since.
I hung up my Army gear in the year 2000 after 32 years, 24 active, at the rank of CW-4 (W4 is the pay grade). The avatar is the 1st Aviation Brigade patch, my higher HQ in Vietnam. Work hard, play hard is/was my motto.
