I would like to buy an N frame S&W in SS and 4-5" barrel. Either 45acp or 44mag. Either the 629 or one the 625 versions. The prices I've seen, even when Bud's gets them in stock, has been well into the $800 plus range & higher elsewhere. Does anyone remember what Bud's prices were back 8-12 months ago before the shortage & prices sky rocketed?

Welcome to the forum!

Now they are all at list price (or more). Just before the chaos started I got a S&W 642 Pro with a list of $479 for $409 or about 15% off list. I think 15% to 20% off list was normal before.

Now that's for a new one. Used ones - I would be guessing, but I'd say at least a 20-25% spike in prices, maybe more for some.

There were 4 S&W 44mags in various barrel lengths at my LGS shortly before Sandy Hook. $650-$850. Some were blued others stainless

Before the election before things went crazy my lgs had the s&w n frames in nickel between $599 to $750 that's way below the list price. The case was full the year before. I went back for months and purchased what I could. Bb

Prices for new are pretty much the same. Prices for used have gone closer to what it costs to get one "new" and sometimes even higher. If they're rare or no longer in production you could probably get 2x times worth. If it's an AR or you have a firearm with hard to find mags you could also get close to 2x what it's worth.

Before Sandy Hook I had bought a used GP100 a few months before for $320. Today you couldn't get that same revolver for probably $500. Then in November I bought a S&W mod.59 (almost new, in box with papers and 3 mags) for $299 + tax. I've seen similar now go for between $400-550. (I also remember seeing ARs sell for between $400-600 used back before the election.)

I for one will not pay these inflated prices & help keep the prices up. I believe the prices will eventually come back to normal, which weren't particularly cheap to start with.
I was at a local gun show last weekend & noticed a vendor selling bricks of Win. 555pk 22LR ammo, which I was lucky to get a couple of bricks from WalMart 2 months ago for $23 plus tax, she was asking $125 a brick. I don't know if any were sold at that price.
I was there looking for a 4" N frame & the few I saw were way over priced.

I just bought a new 627 Pro last week. I paid $20 over MSRP, but it was the first time I have ever seen that model on the shelf. Even in a non-panic price condition the gun would fetch close to MSRP. Panic or no, I would pay that price because I wanted that gun!

I dont think there has been any big changes in new revolver prices over the six months. I havent seen much of that here .

Ones I saw were , say for instance a 642. I did see they were on sale for $439 for a little while. Maybe a couple of weeks or so. But they were back when restocked after all the mess for $489. I think they had been $479 before the sale.

For things like a 44 mag they had been in the $900 or $1000 range before - depending on exact models and makes and such. The 500s were $1200 and up. That is about where they are now.

But the top older revolvers have been going up and up. Colt especially for a while now. But the older Smiths are going up too . There is a fair amount of increase for new, or almost new earlier Smiths and even more with their box. Even more for nickel.

Now the ammo prices have been marching up and up for a while. For some years now really. But it is really up and may likely continue to be high. That is probably the new normal. For instance if a 45 ACp is 50 cents a round now or $25 a box, it might go down to 40 cents or 20 a box , or even $18 in volume. But it is not going to be $12 a box.

Yeah 22 prices are tough now. Again it will be up too, but not likely at insane prices. But 4-5$ for a box of 50 will probbaly be here for quite a while. And hihger when there is none.

Most large chain-stores or sporting goods outlets did not/will not jack-up the price on new guns or even ammo. (Though I have heard a couple of stories concerning Cabella's which contradicts that.) Price increases will only roll-out as/if the price of the gun goes up from the manufacturer. You just have to be there to get what is available. I have been purchasing ammo at practically pre-panic prices, but you never know what the store will receive or when. With a bit of detective work, you can buy ammo at decent prices, even 22. Like others, I have not observed new gun prices escalating to any great degree. Again, like others noted...the price of used guns have drastically increased on sites like Gunpoker or Gunsamerica. You could purchase a used j-frame 38 in the $450-$500 range a couple of months ago. Now, one can scarcely be found for a price close to that and when you do see one, it will be closer to $600 or more. It also seems to me to be model and caliber specific. Just about anything in 9MM or 380 will sell at about any asking price. Next to the AR-15, Mini-14 and like carbines (of which prices are now moderating a bit), people seem to want light-weight carry guns. 380 and 9MM being the most popular calibers.

Ammo prices seem to be moderating a bit as well. My Brownells flier this past week had most popular center-fire handgun ammo at close to pre-panic prices, BUT NO 22 at all....period.

Sellers are dragging guns out of the back of safes they have been unable (or unwilling) to sell but are cashing-in on current demand and getting much higher prices for the "right" used handgun.

Welcome to the forum!! Look in our classified guns for sale. A wide assortment at good prices sold by our members.

Revolver prices have most certainly been effected by the recent panic. I admittedly have paid the higher price. My favorite is when a seller is asking an obviously inflated price but states he wont accept "panic driven trade values" on things we will consider in trade.
Check out the newest version of the blue book then peruse the classified section here. See for yourself where price are.

If any benefit can be derived from the current situation, it's the fact that some uncommon and sought-after guns are surfacing that heretofore could not be found, or owners would not market them. I am guilty of paying too much for a gun recently myself. I never would have paid what I did for it had it been available at the same asking price 4-5 months ago.The only thing I have going for me is that I surely did sell a gun at a premium price that nobody would look at last year as well. It's just what the market is now. Just the law of supply and demand. If you have something you're even thinking about selling.....now is the time. If what you want is plentiful but expensive.....wait a while and you likely can get it at a better price.

Any changes in the laws between now and then not withstanding, just wait a few months and keep your eyes open for gun-shows. You will be able to purchase anything you're looking for in the parking lot for a fair price.
