What were YOUR first guns?

I'd been wanting to try firearms for years, but it wasn't worth the trouble to me where we lived in NY. When we retired to SC, I started telling my husband I was ready to learn shooting. During a cross-country trip, we stopped to see my friend, and her husband asked if we wanted to shoot, so I jumped at the chance.

On August 26th, 2010, I first pulled the trigger on a loaded firearm. It was a Beretta over/under, borrowed from my friend's husband (who also taught me to shoot), to shoot skeet in Omaha, NE. I broke 5 of 25 clays on that first outing, and was hooked.

As soon as I returned home from that visit, I bought my first firearm, a Mossberg 500.

Hubby caught my first ever shot.

After breaking some clays with my new Mossberg, I signed up for an Intro to Handguns class and Concealed Carry course, then some private firearms instruction that included shooting any firearms in the range rental cases. After shooting many types of range rental handguns, the first one I purchased was a new 4" 686-6+.
First semi was SIG P238, because it was the only one I found that I could rack.
First rifle was a .22LR Ruger American Rimfire.

It as a Marlin 39A lever action 22 with a 3x9 power scope.
An AWSOME rifle with hand oil rubbed walnut stock. Bought it in 1966.

Be SAFE and Shoot often!

My first was a JC Higgins 22 semi-auto...next up was a Marlin 336 30-30 and an Ithaca 37 20ga Featherweight. They were my dad's, but I sort of took them over.

When I was 14, one summer I pestered the owner of a local gun shop to do odd jobs...at the end of the summer I was paid with an Ithaca 51 12 ga and a great deal on a custom Springfield M1903 in 6mm Remington. Much later, I researched and learned that the 6mm was built by Harry Lawson using a 24" Shilen barrel, Timney trigger, and custom stock. Still have all of them!

My first rifle which I got when I was around 12 was a Winchester Model 74 which, unfortunately, was stolen while I was in college. It's long ago been replaced by another one. My first pistol which I still have is a High Standard Sport King with 2 barrels. My daughter and grandkids were introduced to pistol shooting with it and it will be passed down in the family. My 1st shotgun was a Hunter Arms 16 ga double which I traded later for a 12 gauge.

First firearm that I shot, at age 8, was a Winchester '06. It had been given to my Dad when he was 8.

It resides in my gun safe now, and gets taken out for old times sake from time to time.

First of each type, in order I got them:
Shotgun: Winchester model 37 .410.
Rifle: Marlin 336 .35 Rem.
Handgun: Colt 1911 LW Officer .45acp.

My first gun was a cool looking all-metal chrome-plated Daisy No. 118 Targeteer. I think I was eight or nine at the time. Unfortunately, I no longer have it, so I've attached a stock photo below. It came with a plastic "BB Trap" target box with three spinning plastic targets inside. It didn't take me too long to blow those apart. You charged it by racking the slide, and amazingly, the rear sight was adjustable for windage and elevation.

My first powder-fired gun was a Ruger Standard I bought in 1974. I still have it (photo below). It has the best trigger of any pistol I have ever fired.

Thanks John, going down memory lane...

I had shot Springfield's chambered in .22 at summer camp, but mostly shot bb guns. I got a Czechoslovakian .177 target pistol when I was 12, shot the heck out of it.

Next firearm was an M-16, but it belong to my uncle Sam.

While I was in the Army I picked up a Universal M1 Carbine, Lyman 1851 Navy and an AR-7. Still have the Navy & AR-7.

Next was a Llama .22, mini 1911. Still have it but it needs a firing pin, what parts.

Then I got a Beretta 950 Jetfire, I like mouse guns, don't have that one, but I have 1 or 2.

Then I got a S&W 659, it was flat cool ! and big and heavy and clunky....

Sold it and got a Beretta Model 70 .22 and a 6" Ruger Security Six, my first revolver and the last I'd ever sell.

My first shotgun was a Mossberg 590

I was born in the '30's so not much money then. I was given a Rem. Model 33 22 SS. when I was 13. That was in 1944. Later when the war was over I got a Stevens 16 Ga. SS for my BD. Later shot my first Pheasant & duck with it. Sure wish I had it back.

1st gun I ever shot was a Winchester model 67 that was passed down from my dad through my older brother to me. I still have it & taught both my sons to shoot with it. My brother & I won several "Turkey Shoots" back in the day with that gun.

My 1st shotgun was a bolt action .410. Don't know what ever became of that old gun. I think it was used in a trade for my brother's Marlin 30-30.

The 1st rifle that was bought for me; a .30 M1 carbine. I was 13 & learned to reload using a Lee loader.

The 1st pistol I bought NIB was a Colt Officer's Model .45 acp. I traded it later for an AMT Hardballer that I built into my IPSC gun. I still have it.

My dad bought me a Remington Improved Model 6 when I was eight. My grandson has it. My brother, daughter, grandson and great grandson all
learned to shoot with it.
I bought a Stevens bolt action 20 Ga. when I was about twelve. It is long gone.
My first handgun was my Dad's Police Positive. My grandson has it. It is one hundred and one years old.
The first handgun that I bought was a Standard Ruger 6 inch barrel. My grandson has it.

303 British jungle carbine. my dad and uncle went through a barrel of them to get what they thought was the best one for $32. I wish they would have bought the whole barrel of them. a big mistake as getting rid of. I was 14 at the time and my uncle had me reloading for it the same year

My first gun was a Stevens Mod 15 bolt action single shot .22 rifle that
I received as a Christmas present in 1958 when I was 13 yrs old. I still
have it and will keep it until I no longer need it.

A mossberg shotgun, 12ga 36" barrel bolt action goose gun.

First handguns, (70's)

1. Colt Python, 357/6" blue
2. Ruger SBH 44/7.5" Barrel blue
3. Ruger police service six 357/2 3/4" bbl gf-32

My first was also a Winchester M-69 22. Still have it all these years later. I was 7. Paid 10 dollars for it to a fellow that I happened to know. He was getting out of farming(and being married) and I had helped on his farm driving a tractor pulling a wagon for picking up straw. Paid with my own money too. Fist centerfire was a M-1 carbine given to me by a fellow that worked at Aberdeen Proving ground. He gave me ammo too. I wore that gun out. Oh it was a Winchester. First shotgun was a Winchester M-37 410...It was a great shotgun for me...but hard to hit flying critters. But I shot my first Canada Goose with it when I was 11. First handgun which I still have is a SAA in 38WCF in exc 60% or better condition. I bought it when I was 11. for 15 dollars. Have never fired it. and it is residing back east in a safety deposit box . First semi auto handgun I bought from Kleins Sporting goods mail order when I was a bit too young. Military 1911. it was cheap...and worth almost every penny I paid.

Winchester 77 22lr
Winchester 70 06. Pre 64
Remington 11 20 ga
Remington 8 30 Rem
Savage 1899 rebarreled to 30-30

My first gun was a High Standard Victor with the 4" barrel. (Similar to the one in the photo). I purchased it when I was about 16 years old. Mainly used it in ISSF competitions for a few years. Ended up trading it in on a Pardini SPE. Still have the Pardini.

My first was a Marlin / Glenfield model 25 Bolt Action, 7 round Mag. Rifle in .22 rimfire. It shot Shorts, Longs & Long Rifles and came with a 1/2" 4X Marlin branded Scope. The Glenfield version was a cheaper line of Marlins and used Beachwood instead of Walnut for the Stock material. The fit and finish was slightly less quality although the rifle remains a "Tack Driver" till this day! Believe it or not, the damned rifle had a much better trigger pull than almost any production Rimfire Rifle does today!! I think my Dad bought it for about $39 bucks complete! I'd spend countless hours on the weekends shooting box after box of .22 Shorts through it and still have my original Sears Cleaning Kit in the red steel box. :)

I've never mounted the Scope and it is still NIB (original box) along with the little Descant package it came with. Being only a 1/2" in diameter it's pretty much a "junker".

Mt first Shotgun was a 12 Ga. Savage Stevens Pump with an adjustable Choke attached. I bought it when I was 14 for Pheasant Hunting and sold it when I went off to college. Wish I still had it just out of nostalgia.
