What were YOUR first guns?

AS A LATE BLOOMER (18 Y/O)

1975 I had never fired a real gun. :( Being in the right time at the right place, the police were then allowed to go from 38's to 357's & some fine old model 10's were flooding the market. I would buy 1-3 of them, drive them no more than 20-30 minutes & sell them to another LGS for a 5-10 $ profit. It kept me in beer $ for awhile in college & NEVER had 1 more than an hour. My first keeper guns: Glenfield mdl 60 with scope & brick of 22's for under 100$ @ K-Mart, Mossberg mdl 500 12ga with bird & smoothbore slug bbl, Ruger superblackhawk 44 mag & MKl 6" target bbl in that order kept me good to go for some time. (> 12 years) :)

My first was a new model 28-3...then a 27-2 six incher ..third 29-2 6 1/2inch. All three were blued.

My first gun was a Benjamin 177 caliber pump handgun. Boy did I cause trouble with that gun. I got paid back though when I purchased my first real gun which was a M-1 Carbine made by Universal. The M-1 was total junk.

My first rifle was a Savage 170 pump in caliber 30-30. Got it for my 15th birthday and it slayed many a whitetail in northern Missouri. No, I don't still have it. When my son decided he wanted to deer hunt a couple of years ago I went ahead and gave it to him figuring he'd inherit it someday anyway.

First shotgun was a 20 ga. 870 Wingmaster I bought with my own money the same year I was gifted the 30-30. Sadly, I sold that to pay bills shortly after I got married.

First handgun was a 4 inch blued Security Six bought at the local Western Auto store in the mid-70's. That one left me the same time the 870 got sold.

True first

My first gun, at age 5, was a Red Rider BB gun, a Christmas gift, from my Mom & Dad, around 1936. My first first firearm, at age 6, was a Hamilton Boy's rifle, chambered for .22 LR. It was bought and paid for, by me in 1936. with money that I earned hauling ashes, and trash to the city dump, in an old wheelbarrow. I had to build and install a missing front sight. Some folks don't believe my old true story, but, one's responsibility was assumed at a much earlier age back then. I have nether the guns, or the wheelbarrow. I do have a picture, and scale model of the wheelbarrow, and many memories of them.
Chubbo

I would like to amend my account of what my first gun was, as I had overlooked my truly first gun. Whether it was operable, is questionable, but, it was defiantly my first. In 1935 my Dad found and gave to me a side by side, double barreled, cap lock, Black powder, pistol to play with, when I was 4 years old. I had forgotten the house that we lived in then, and it just came to mind. A neighbor boy stole that gun from me me, and I never saw it again. We moved to our next home when I was age 4, so I know the date and my age, at the time is correct.

I went through a few .22 bolt actions over my learning years but, none were officially mine. When I was about 12-13 I got my first gun that was actually mine, all mine. It was a Winchester Model 12 12ga that had been in the family since the 50s. It needs new springs but I still have it and it's going strong. I also received a JC Higgins 20ga pump about the same time. It's debatable which one has put more meat on the table. I believe one of the Nylons in the late 80s pic was mine as well.

first up for me was an iver johnson .410 single shot. it still resides in the master bedroom.
my first purchase was a 59 smith 9mm. too big for my hands, so i sold it for a model 19 4".

I gt my first gun back in 1975. I traded a carburetor for a Ruger .22 LR pistol that also came with a .22 Mag cylinder. It was later stolen out of my truck.

The first gun I ever bought was my 640-1 .357 back in 2008.

My first gun would have been my crossman 760 pumpmaster. After that I moved on to dads marlin 39a. First shotgun is a Winchester model 37 20 gauge youth model that was given to me by one of my father's friends. I still have my pumpmaster and my 37, and dad still has the 39a.

Mine I still have a Sears Roebuck .22 single shot bolt action rifle. Dad paid less than $20.00 bucks for when I a kid around 1969.
One of my favorites to shoot even today. Accurate still.
Want to teach your kids to shoot with accuracy send them squirrel hunting with a single shot. You learn quick to make the firat one count as you usually wont get 2nd one off.

Growing up, living family or friends were not firearms enthusiasts. While I would go to the range and rent a firearm from time to time, I started personal ownership later in life. My first firearm was a Glock 19 Gen4.

First .22- Glenfield model 60 Jam o matic, but I still have it. Forced me to buy a 10-22 when I got out on my own.

First Deer Rifle. Remington model 7600 pump. .270 Still Have it

First Handgun: 357 Magnum GP100 Thanks Mom! Still have it.

First Shotgun: Western Field 410 Pump Still have it.

An Ithaca model 72 .22 LR lever action, I believe closely related to an Erma product and the current Henry rifle of the same type. Bought at JC Penney's and still have it.

A Ruger single-six convertible 22lr/22mag that my dad got for me and my brother in 1969! I still have it!

Got a Remington 1100 12ga on my 18th birthday, (70 now). Still have it, haven't found one I like better.

First gun: marlin glenfield .22 semi auto rifle, tube-fed. I think it's at my boy's house.

First handgun: milsurp 1911. Stolen out of my office desk by cleaning crew.

MY FIRST FIVE

Dad gave me a Daisey slide-action BB rifle for Xmas around 1950 when I was eight. Didn't poke my eye out, so.....

He then gave me a Marlin 81-DL bolt-action .22 around '52. Carried for many a mile in NE Ohio. Still in the family (passed it on to my son & expect him to pass it on to his son).

Bought my 1st revolver in early '62 when I was 19. An Italian single-action in 357, which got me started in CAS in the early 80s. I still have it & take to the range several times each year.

First shotgun was an LC Smith 16 ga., which I inherited from my Dad when he passed on. Had it fully restored in the '80s in his memory & honor. A "thing of beauty & a joy forever".

First semi-auto was a Star PD in .45, which I sold to a friend in the 80s.

Enjoy holding in my hands & reliving memories with these ol' timers that I still have.

Hank M.

I grew up shooting a large assortment of my granddads guns starting at a young age. Shotguns, all different caliber rifles and a huge candy store of pistols. I think my favorite was shooting clays with his Merkel(s) and the power the 30 06 produced (I was 8). I also fancied his M66 snub quite a bit, probably why I have such an affinity for Smith revolvers today.

On my 18th birthday, I walked into a Big 5 and bought a Mossberg 12 gauge pump shotgun for $139. I also bought a few boxes of shells, a box of clays and a hand thrower. My buddies and I headed right out to the closest desert and had a grand old time.

On my 21st birthday, I walked into a gun store in Culver City called Martin B. Rettings and bought a S&W 5906. I think the handgun waiting period in CA back in 1989 was 15 days. SMH.

I moved to Hawaii a few years later and sold all my guns before I left L.A.

I do still own the very next gun I purchased after I moved back to the mainland (and almost every other one I bought subsequently) , which is a Colt Series 80 Mark IV Officers Enhanced .45acp.

Winchester Model 67A Youth, single-shot .22 for my 6th bday back in 1987. It was my dads when he was a kid. Then when I turned 8 my bday present was a Savage 220D single-bbl 16 Ga. Still have them both.

First gun I ever purchased for myself was a 1967 Winchester Model 70 Target in .308 from a close friend in summer 2001, between freshman and sophomore year of college. Has Redfield Match sights and is amazingly accurate. He's purchased the rifle for himself in 1981-82 from a USMC shooter at Quantico and just didn't shoot as much as he used to- so he sold it to me for $850 and it's arguably one of my favorite firearms.

Aside from the Daisey Red Ryder BB Gun? My first real firearm was a Walther PPK/S in .22LR.

Great little shooter.

First gun I ever shot was a .22 Charter Arms AR7 when I was 9. Didn't care for the noise at the time and switched over to archery.

Later I got into handguns and bought my first gun, a mid-90s Beretta 92FS. At first I got a Hartts recoil reducer guide rod (remember those?), a Wolff Border Patrol trigger spring conversion (still going strong), and IWI PT night sights (now dead...sights have since been blackened with a Sharpie). More recently I installed a D hammer spring, Wolff recoil spring guide rod, and a set of VZ/LTT grips with a new set of grip screws. I've also got a G conversion kit, but I haven't installed it yet. I'm also thinking of getting a flush hammer spring cap.

Oh, I guess I should post a picture...

The first rifle I ever shot was my dad's 67 Winchester. It resides today in the back of my safe.
The first shotgun I shot was my grandpa's Iver Johnson 410 single shot. I don't have THAT gun, but I have one very similar to it in the safe next to the 67 Winchester.
The first gun I could call mine was a Remington Nylon 66.
My first handgun was a High Standard Sport King I bought from a fellow student at school. I mean he brought the gun to school and I gave him $40 for it and he handed it to me in the hall if the school.
My first center fire rifle was a M700 Remington BDL in 243 Win.
I could write pages about any one of these, but like most of us here, I will be content to reminisce.

Mine was a Winchester auto model of 1903. (Had been my Grandfather's gun). For those of you who know, the ammo (larger than a 22RF) was hard to find and expensive back in the mid 50's. About 65 years later I finally replaced it with one I could shoot, the Model 63 in 22 LR.

My first guns, purchased in the 80's, were the Colt Combat Commander in .45ACP and Ruger Mini 14. No longer have them.

MY first was a high standard double nine 22. Still have it.

I shot a bunch of my Dad's guns, but the first one that I bought with my money was British N0.1 Mk3 that I paid $15.00 for. I was in decent shape and kicked like a mule. I wish that I had not sold it, but I now have two more. They are in better condition than my first 303. I like military rifles.
