I'm not a big fan of what if... I'm going to hope it doesn't come to this and I'm sure it won't any time soon. Only an idiot would not turn in the guns the government knows you have.

...and they send you form leter "Dear Mr Smith, Our records show that you own the following guns:...You must turn these weapons into your local police station by 12:00 AM tomorrow or you will bein violation of Federal procclamation #xxx-xxxx and you will be subject to prosicution.
So what are you going to do?
First of all, since they have no idea what day the letter will be delivered, they won't tell you to turn them in tommorrow.

Secondly, while their records might show what guns I've bought, in the time period it took the letter to get to my house I could have shot the weapons, decided I didn't like them and sold them all.

Thirdly, I'm not psychic or anything like that, but this being your third post you might want to put on some asbestos underwear.

I must not have made myself clear. I am not trying to start a flame war, want to know why we are stocking up on weapons, for what reason.

OK, that's a fair question.
Just ask it with a less dramatic scenario.

Personally, I'm NOT stocking up on weapons. If I find one I like, I buy it. My tastes are rather eccentric at best, I own everything from EBR's to original Parkers and a Holland and Holland DR. I have no need per se, for anything, although I guess I'm prepared for most anything. Don't fall for all the hype going on about laws being passed, ammo being outlawed or global warming (well, I'm not sure about global warming

).

Going out later today with the grand kids and the God sons, so I went looking for .22 ammo over the last few days. Cabela's wanted $27.00 for 500 (and were almost out), BassPro $19.00 for 500 (10 boxes on shelf), and finally a local sporting goods store (Dunn's) $14.99 for 500 and all you could carry. Dunn's gets more hunters and fisherman, the others get the people who read about how bad the ammo shortage is. Where's the problem?

well, the second amendment is the one that secures all of our other "constitutionally protected" God-given rights. so if the second amendment gets hosed, i will wait a while to see what happens. if forced to give up arms, i will leave this country and never come back.

if we are forced to live in a socialist and disarmed country, at least i want it to be one that doesnt have 20% of the population as a PERMANENT underclass that commits 60% of the crimes. i also want it to be a country where my taxes get me something - like free college education, good roads, etc.

now the idiot gang is trying to stomp on the 1st admendment.glen beck show last nite was abou thow idiot is wanting to shut down radio and tv talk shows like rush, glen beck, and anything not commie.so it dont look good for any of the first 10 admendments.

I know a man who was born in Holland before WWII. When Germany invaded Holland, one of the first things they grabbed was the records of registered firearms. They went to this man's uncle, who had a registered rifle and shotgun, and told him that he had one hour to turn in his guns or they would kill him. He turned in his guns and lived to acquire other guns when freedom returned to
Holland.

If the Goverment ever shows up at my door demanding my guns, I can say that I will give them the ammunition first. Realistically speaking; that ain't what I'm gonna do. Unless it is "your guns or your life", my guns, ammunition, and reloading equipment and supplies will be hidden in a national forest. They can search my house, but they won't find anything. When freedom returns to America, my guns will be recovered by me, my children, my grandchildren, or some descendent.

We are NOT stocking up on weapons. Almost everyone here has more than enough weapons for almost any reason, and is simply continuing life as usual, adding or subtracting here or there to fill holes in a collection, satisfy an itch, or turn an unneeded piece into funds available for a "needed" one.

I hear rumors that some folks ARE stocking up on weapons, but I don't believe it. I believe that A LOT of folks are becoming first- or second-time buyers, and that means that a lot of guns are selling, but not all, or even many, to any one person. But that's something to chase down someplace else. Folks on this board are about the last people in the country who would need to stock up on weapons.

The people who didn't have firearms are buying them fearful that the right may soon be usurped by the current admin. I think that people who have had firearms for a long time are stockup on ammo because they fear it will be taxed beyond their means to buy it soon. People like me stocked up years ago because I believe there will be a clash within our country the question is with whom and when?

I have owned all the guns I will ever need for 50 years now. I have collected a lot more since.
First of all I dont think things will happen quite like your senerio. Lets say it did though. Number 1, if we all got a letter like that on the same day there wouldnt be enough brown shirts to enforce it. Word gets around fast, lets say 4 brown shirts do show up at your house. Hopefully last night you called your buddys that have guns, they called other buddys that do etc. When the brown shirts show up so does half the area with guns behind them. I belive the leader will call time out to rethink things. It will get nasty if he doesnt.
That senerio doest address how it DID happen in countrys like australia etc. I doubt they put a death threat in the letter as the uncle in holland where the nazis all ready had invaded and got the records. In our cases, most of the people on this board have guns both registered and not. Many are like me that probley have owned hundreds in the past. What am I going to say? Here are 4 regestered guns? I probley bought 150 more in the past that I dont have and cant account for either! NOTHING I can say or produce would satisfy them, ya think?

I was competeing in the National Matches at Camp Perry in about 1999 or 2000. I was squaded with a guy from Australia that had traveled here just to shoot. He worked for Quantis Airline so he got free travel.

Not only did he want to shoot, but he said his real mission was to warn us here to get our heads out, wake up and quit electing the ass-hat politicians before we got screwed over like the Aussies did.

He came here sans rifle, but borrowed an AR to shoot in the President's 100...(I somehow find the name of that match rather revolting considering the present climate).

He told us that he owned an AR, but it was confiscated by the government, however he said he was reimbursed for it.

He kept saying, "guys, you are going to go the same way as we did if you just don't wake up."

How true it was. It is not here yet, but the criminals in Washington are working around the clock to make it happen.

God help us.

I think there is a lot of thinking out there, "When it gets THAT bad we all will revolt and take the country back"! It really needs to be addressed before hand on a ongoing basis as every bit of new legislation turns up. I must admit I probley have been lax myself on it. I never been to australia, but think it should be a example of what can happen. Many of us daydream that, hell I just would bury most of mine and tell them they were sold long ago, and turn in a couple dogs. That, and hell, we will take to the boonies etc. No other country in the world has more boonies than australia! And surprisely, isnt their heritage suppose to be one of exciled prisioners, free spirited tough people? How then did it happen there? Are we really overall, more tougher than them? Not from the movies I have seen! How did it happen there?

We should keep in mind that the Parliamentary system in GB and Australia makes it easier for the party in power to make sweeping changes. The party also finds it much easier to enforce party discipline, That is to say, you will vote the way we want you to vote. So coming for the guns in the US is a bit more involved, not impossible just more involved.

I have guns because I want to shoot. In fact I make it a point to shoot them. I am not building a stockpile or buying them because I think they are a good investment.
IMO the best way to avoid the "they are coming for your guns" problem is to stay united, support organizations like the NRA, get a CWP, and shoot.
Last I heard we were close to 600,000 CWPs in Florida with many applications in the works, this is from a base of about 12 million registered voters. I heard one of the Pro-Gun State Reps, say "Now that is influence, well over a half million voters, and you know exactly where they stand."
