A Mini-14 is a 223 and a AR-15 is a 556, correct?

A Mini-14 is chambered in .223 and some but not all AR-15s are chambered for 5.56. It will be marked on the barrel.

Erich's link is one of the clearest explanations I have seen.

A good guy wearing a white hat and sporting a J/D may have just saved several rifles across the fruited plain with that post!
GOOD ON YA' Erich!

!

Gosh, guys - all I did was link! :o You could give a fella a big head! :)

And, while I may not be old, that fella who's picture showed up on my new driver's license this week sure is! :D

Most Mini-14s are 5.56. Check the manual for your specific rifle to be sure. Perfectunion web site has tons of Mini info.

Ruger Mini-14s do say .223 Rem on the barrels , but on pg.2 of the owners manual , they state that they recommend US commercial and military ammo made to NATO spec.
