I'm from Wash. DC, but have lived in over 20 places and many states from the northeast to the deep south to TX, AZ and CA. In the last six years I've moved coast to coast four times. I've never lived longer than 4 years in any one place due to my career.
Despite the stupid gun laws and politicians, and lawyers, and K St lobby firms etc. etc. Washington DC is a world class city to live in with amazing amenities. Seven days a week, 365 days a year, anyone can see a free world class event in the arts. In the mood for jazz? DC is awesome for jazz and I lived in heart of the jazz district where Duke Ellington lived. Don't get me started on the food!! Every country's food is represented. Be sure to stop by Ben's Chili Bowl in my old neighborhood; everyone from street bums to millionaires go in for a half-smoke.
People who have never gotten to know DC, including those from MD and VA, are really missing out on a fantastic place to live and play.
So, my moniker helps me stay grounded as I move around the country, because I am a DC transplant.
