I've been a shooter since I was 9 and was fortunate to have an uncle who lived in London who was an Olympic pistol shooter. He let me shoot his Model 52 and I was hooked.

When I was 14 a couple of local cops came to our door to talk to my dad about one of our more rambunctious dogs which had gotten into some rabbits across the street (this was in suburban NJ in the late-60's) and the neighbor was a bit bent out of shape over it. My dad was not home but I engaged the cops in a discussion of firearms and they very kindly invited me to come down to the police range. I badgered my mom into taking me (and got permission from my Dad to let me use one of his Model 19's - he had a 4" and a 6"). I had a great time, and I was hooked on revolvers and competition shooting.

Those cops taught me quite a bit, and one of the most shocking things was the complete lack of regular shooting practice by 95% of the force. I went to shoot there weekly for over two years, and I always saw the same few guys at the range. Since then, I have found that this is still quite normal in most police depts. to this day; most cops only practice just before it's time to qualify!

I have collected a few S&W's over the years, including a pristine K-22 in its box, and a Model 41 with 3 barrels.

I'm looking forward to learning a lot here.

Welcome to the forum from KY.

There are lots of helpful and knowledgeable folks here.

Just be careful: Use is addictive!

Welcome from another San Diegan. Where in San Diego do you shoot? There seem to be few options for places to shoot and a very limited number of stores for firearms and supplies.
Anyway, I'm glad to see another San Diegan here.
Steve
