What's Your Occupation?

I have worked at many different jobs, never found the one career I could enjoy for a lifetime.

Draftsman, estimator, site supervisor (construction projects), fry cook, jewelry salesman, call center, medical technician, yellow pages salesman, medical safety reviewer, REALTOR and so many more small jobs in between times. Currently recovering from broken leg from a fall due to back injuries and awaiting for the federal government to approve me as "disabled".

So now I live via this flat thing sitting on my lap that allows me to answer questions like these. (and shop for more S&Ws....)

Retired from LE after 32 years, currently running my own business.......
recently opened a breast examination clinic. The clinic also has a micro brewery to keep me busy when business is slow.

Wait a minute...What? A breast examination clinic with a micro brewery on the side? I'm trying real hard to behave here because of my recent, er, history.

As I found out, they were looking for inside the box thinking yes men. Which is who they promoted at the end of that process. The only time they wanted someone who could work independently was when they tapped me to run a difficult IT project. I think they mostly picked me because they expected it to fail and they would have someone to blame. I disappointed them and pulled it off. It not only changed the way we did business, it made the department a lot of money because of improved billing. They thanked me by kicking me out of the project and replacing me with... a yes man.

Anyway, it's all in the rear view mirror because I retired in December. I've picked up two part time jobs since then and Thursday got a call for another one. Plus I'm doing some research for a pro 2A organization.

I don't miss the organization I used to work for, but I miss a lot of people that I used to work with. As one former co worker put it, "You still love the clowns, but you've come to hate the circus."

I worked 40 years as a lineman for the phone company to make a living and retired when I was 60. I was a volunteer fireman for 20 years. In this state when you have 20 years and are 55 you can draw a small pension for your fire service. For the last 11 years I do what I want to do every day and cash checks for a living. (Soc. Sec., Pension and Dividend Checks) Life is great. Larry

Diesel mechanic. I have my own shop in rural Iowa ,my customers bring in everything from Steiger tractors to electric wheelchairs,mostly semi tractors and trailers though.

Was a state cop for 10 years, federal agent for 21. Decided to retire a couple years ago after getting pretty badly hurt on the job. Now I spend most of my time shooting, hunting, fishing, or working on my wildlife photography. Work part time shooting weddings - It pays well, and there are the free drinks and food to consider...
