when did S&W market there own ammo

Smith & Wesson originally marketed ammunition in the 1850s. S&W branded ammunition was sold intermittently from then at least into the early 1920s.

Your right sir. I worked a cold case homicide in which the husband put a hit on his wife and used the Nyclad 38 148 gr WC ammo. The lab had a hard time with it and the best they could do was call it 'inconclusive", for the same reason you mentioned. It doesn't take the rifling impressions like lead or copper does.
