Where are all the 45 Colt 625s?

I have mine and love it. The reason I purchased it was to have something different. It was my first revolver that uses moon clips. It is different than the 1911 ACP. My owning the 625 is not a commentary on the pistol. The 625 is just a different method of getting the job done. My first 1911 was a Colt Buttercup. Because it was built to tighter than normal tolerances and it burned target 180 grain semi wad cutters, it was not always reliable. The 625 has as yet, not ever failed to feed those rounds. I strongly suspect that it never will.

I'd love a 45 Colt 625 but I'll be danged if I can find one. Where are they all hiding? There is NO PROBLEM finding a 45 acp version. But why someone would want a 45 acp caliber revolver over the amazing 45 Colt is beyond me.

I have two 25-5s in .45colt and a 625 in .45acp. The 625 is 5 inch and the others are 6 inch......now y'all have piqued my interest in a 625 in 45 colt.

I was in a similar predicament. I wanted a 3" model 25 in .45 Colt. With the help of some forum members with advice and parts I was able to get a .45 Colt cylinder and a recommendation to a gun Smith for install. They were very helpful, and now I have my "dream revolver". It was a 25-2 in .45 acp that is now .45 Colt with a lot of custom work done. You might have a hard time finding a stainless .45 Colt cylinder but my gun was finished in hard chrome which is a similar finish. So a blued cylinder would work if hard chromed.

I'm not a jealous kind of guy at all... I'm always happy for good people to have nice things. But I have to admit... I'm kind of jealous of these (3) wonderful revolvers... Damn, those are just F-ing awesome! Right on man; you have nice taste!

My solution was similar to Drgbike's. I used 2 629-1 guns to get mine. Bought a 4" and a 5" 45 acp barrels and reamed the 44 mag cylinders to 45 colt. Fit the barrels, which must have the barrel extension trimmed to clearance the longer 44 mag cylinders (same length as factory 45 colt cylinders). Also have to recut the forcing cone. On the 4" gun I cut the back of the cylinder for moon clips and it fires colts, acps and 45 win mags. The barrels I got only say 45 caliber anyway. I picked up one of the 629-1s for $500 and the other for $550. Barrels were around a $100 each and I already owned the reamer which is about $125 new, but you can rent one for $35 from 45 Colt (Long Colt) - 4D Reamer Rentals

Nope they are not collectable anymore, but they are very shootable.

Well, because the M625 Mountain Gun in .45 ACP is the best fighting revolver around. Nothing loads faster than .45 ACP in full moon clips. I carried a M625 as a patrol officer and I could reload as fast or faster than my fellow officers who carried semi autos.

.45 ACP ammo is much cheaper than .45 Colt. In factory ammo, the ACP rounds are the same as the Colt. If you need to go more powerful, you should go beyond the .45 Mountain Guns and either go with a Ruger .45 Colt or go to a M629 .44 Magnum Mountain Gun.

The first firearm I ever fired was a Colt Bisley .45 Colt. I was five years old. The first center fire revolver I ever owned was a Ruger Blackhawk in .45 Colt. I have a Ruger New Model Blackhawk in .45 Colt/.45 ACP. I also have a M25-5, a Colt New Service in .45 Colt and have had several other .45 Colt revolvers.

I once had a M625 Mountain Gun in .45 ACP, a second M625 Mountain Gun in .45 Colt and a M629 .44 Magnum Mountain Gun. I sold the .45 Colt and kept the other two.

I know two places in Atlanta and north Atlanta that have 25-5s.

One is 6 inches and the other a 4 incher.

IIRC, the Georgia state police back in the 1980s carried
25-5s in 4 inch.
