Where do y'all stand on this revolver/semi-auto trade? (UPDATE)

I'd rather have a 4" 19 than a 4" 66, and I'd rather have a 4566 than a 4506.
I have a 2.5" 66 and I have a 4566.

K frames aren't a whole lot of fun to shoot with full power .357 loads, but they're not like a J frame .357.

Then again, I don't remember the 4506 cracking the frames due to hot, light-bullet ammo, either.

I own and shoot both of the guns you're describing. Both are great pistols and you can't go wrong with either of them. In the condition you describe the values are about even. The 4506 is a lot more rare than the 66 in my area, your area may be different. Of the 2 the 4506 is my favorite to shoot at the range.

As noted, the current $ values are a wash , and the total numbers of 4506 are smaller than total numbers of M66, ( and in my area 4506 are seldom seen). The OP states he has other revolvers, and lack of M66 won't leave any important holes.

So IF the 4506 feels ok to you in your hand , feel free to make the trade. And I'm a revolver guy.

If it was my choice, I'd keep the 66 and save money to buy the 4506. A no dash 66 isn't something seen for sale all the time.Then again I'm not a trader or seller. I've sold 2 guns, and regretted both of them being gone from my collection.

hey, at least I'm not one of those gomers that bought a Bren 10 because Crocket from Miami Vice carried one,LOL!!!!

If you had bought one and still had it in the safe it'd be worth a hell of a lot more than either the 66 or 4506.

That's a tough one. It depends what else you have in your collection. If you already have some nice smith revolvers, make the trade. The 4506 is a nice gun.

Well, since I KNOW everyone is on the edge of their seat waiting to hear how this played out , I went ahead with the trade.
The 4506 is in nearly brand new condition, virtually no scratches or abrasions at all (I had seen and fired it once before,several months ago when he first bought it, but didn't recall it's exact condition).
Even the plastic grip is nearly pristine. This is the dash-1 version with the oval trigger guard, flash-chromed trigger and hammer, black Novak sights, and has the R1 stamp at the base of the mag well (I've read mention of this,what does that mean?)
It also has the flat backstrap, which I prefer being that these already have such a large grip.
My buddy bought this with just one factory mag, but immediately bought a brand new S&W mag, so I did get two mags (but no box or papers).
I'm feeling like I did OK, and my buddy is happy with the 66, so it's all good.
I was going to try and post a pic, but I guess we non-contributing members aren't afforded that luxury .

I have a 4506 with 50 rounds through it. It was my carry gun when I worked at the Sheriff Office, and was issued to me 6 months before I retired. It was in our contract that when we retired we were issued a retirement badge and our duty pistol. It was cleaned and has been living in the safe for twenty years. I agree with you that it is the finest of pistols. I carry a CS 45 now.

If you are using a cellphone pic, email the pic to yourself , go to paint, and bring up your pic, click on re-size ,then click on pixels. Click on the larger number, and make it 800 ( max size for a non-contributing member). The other number should automatically re-size. Save it, then post it under the advanced setting with the paperclip.

Time machine choice - it is 1989. A 4506 goes for about $600.00, a Model 66 is only worth about $380.00 NIB.

Interesting point, but wasn't that also about the time the wonder-nines (or semi-autos,in general) were really taking off, and revolvers were at an all-time low? As best I can tell, the two are running about neck-and-neck,these days.
