Where were you on 9/11?

I was asleep for most of it.

Was 21, just got off the night shift around 6:30 am and was in bed by 7. I kept hearing my cell phone ring and ring. I was to tired to answer. I finally got tired of if ringing and picked up around 11am. It was my dad calling the whole time to wake me up. Spent the rest of the day glued to the tv

I was out of work, having been recently laid off. I started working for myself by building my own house.

That morning I was finishing my last cup of coffee before heading to MY job site.

I hope I never hear these words again as long as I live:

"Turn your TV on, ANY CHANNEL"

I had been "downsized" from my job in July, and with the bad economy, jobs were hard to find. I was lucky enough to be scheduled for a job interview at a new Sears call center on 9/11. When I walked into the office for my interview, the manager had the TV on and asked me if I had heard about what had happened. I had been playing classical music CDs in my car on the drive up (to keep me calm and focused for the interview), so I was completely unaware. The manager was pretty shaken up, and asked if I still wanted to interview, or should we just reschedule it. I had a wife and two babies to feed, and I needed a job BADLY. So I convinced her that we couldn't really do anything to help those affected up north, and that we should go ahead with business as usual until we heard otherwise.

By the way, the interviews went well, and the manager recommended me for hire, but the decision was nixed by her boss because he felt that because I was used to making more money than they offered, that I wouldn't be "loyal". At the time I had been a loyal Sears customer for over 30 years. I haven't set foot into a Sears store since. It would take me almost 2 more years to find full-time work.

Regards,

Dave

Running late as usual from morning livestock chores, hadn't heard any news. Got to school and the office staff had a TV in the office. Spent the entire day with my 6th graders watching the reports and having discussions about them. As I recall they closed school the next day. Even though I live out in the country, I remember clearly the eerie quiet of the empty skies in the days after.

Saw the second plan crash into the tower live on the news as I was leaving for a trial. Shook me up pretty good Had to go try a custody trial that morning. Nobody really had their heart into it..... Some things just stay with you. Was in third grade class when we heard the announcement about kennedy's death over the loudspeaker.

I was getting dressed for work, had the tv on. My older son (high school senior at the time was getting ready for school-Mountain Time Zone). I didn't have the volume up at first, I commented to him about the WTC being on fire in NYC. He came in to watch when the second plane hit. We both looked at each other then back to the tv in shock at what we just saw.

A couple of years later my son enlisted and told me that attack was the reason why.

I was at work. Guys in our Street Dept. came in and said we were under attack. We didn't have TV in our office, but I had a radio. I heard the live reports of the towers coming down. I scanned the dial most of the day for information. I never saw the video footage until that afternoon, at an oil change place. Just to make a statement here, I wish they would stop showing the planes crash into the towers. I can't imaging the anguish of those whose loved ones were murdered like that, having to witness it time and time again for nothing more than TV sensationalism.

I don't know if it's the 60's-70's catching up to me or old age but for the life of me I can't remember what I was doing. I do remember the announcement of JFK though as I was in HS principal never let us know until the 3:00 bell and he was crying, hit some hard.

I was in the local walmart when another shopper told me what had happened. I went home and watched T V for quite a while.

It was a Tuesday if I recall correctly and I was on the road as usual, listening to Howard Stern on the radio (I couldn't wait to hear what he said next ;)) when he announced it was happening. He could actually see it from his studio (so he said). At my next stop, everyone was watching it on TV. The second plane hit while we were watching. That put an end to the previous speculation by reporters that the collision with the first tower may have been an accident.

I was at work, in my office, talking to a co-worker. It was my first day back at work after a bad stomach bug, and I could already tell I'd come back a day too early. My wife called to tell me that there was a breaking news story about a plane flying into one of the towers. Reports were still sketchy and contradictory over what type of plane it was and how it happened. I told her I was about to come back home anyway, and we hung up. As I was driving home listening to radio news reports the second plane hit. I had been home a few minutes when the third plane hit the Pentagon.

On a plane flying from Omaha to Houston. We put down in Dallas Fort Worth where we were told of the attack. Took a bus to Houston where we got our rental car. Still remember driving out of Houston and seeing fighters flying the race track formation over Houston. Didn't actually see the footage of the towers coming down until about 9pm that night.

I was working for the NYS Police and was a Major overseeing our Traffic Services operations. I was in my office and the Field Commander (Colonel) called me down. Together we saw the second plane strike to tower. Then the real work began and continues to the day.

I was on the phone with a vendor trying to get a customer the right DSL modem that supported his service.

I had Howard Stern playing in the background. While we were trying to find the right model, Robin reported that a "small plane" had crashed into the World Trade Center. Then another report came in and it was obvious that the "small planes" were airliners and that it was no accident.

A co-worker asked me what I thought would happen. I told him, "A lot of people are going to need to die behind this." They have, just not enough. But I imagine in a little over a year, we'll pick up the pace again.

I went and got the M1 Carbine out of the safe and put it in a bedroom closet. Since then there has not been a day I didn't carry.

A friend and I started loading magazines.

A few years previously, I'd bought an Eagle AR-15 lower and a couple of uppers to deal with some neo-Nazis. I hear they work just as well on jihadis...

I was working as Detective in the NYPD Warrant Squad had a van with prisoners we were bringing to court. The first plane hit and we cold smell smoke but the radio reports made it seem like a small plane had struck the building when the second plane hit one of the prisoners said it was terrorists. These prisoners were young violent felons whom probably never watched the news in their lives unless they were on it. How they figured it was terrorists back then is beyond me. I remember driving many fireman who were walking to the scene after their trucks had left their firehouses, many probably never made it. We were headed across the Brooklyn bridge one last time when our boss called us back to command because they wanted us on standby in case other incidents occurred in the area we worked which was Brooklyn. I will never forgot for as long as I live the sounds of officers transmitting over the radio while all this was going on and watching as the buildings fell the radio went much quieter and all those lives were lost. We spent many months on site afterwards and I was proud seeing the city and country unite following that day. People have short memories and this country is so much worse off since that day.

I heard the first report on Howard Stern and figured it was a prank. Went into a doctor's office in Eustis Fl and made my spiel, thinking about spending my next fat bonus check. On the way out the TV was on in the waiting room, you could hear a pin drop. Second plane hit, my brain shut out normal thinking that instant. Drove the 70 miles back to the house, turned on the TV, laid the 12ga across my lap and waited for instructions that never came. I think I was more affected by this than JFK because I still ain't "over it." Joe

My wife and I had the TV on the news while getting ready for work, as usual. Initially it was reported as a fire in one of the towers. Of course the story unfolded live on television. I was very late to work that morning. For several days nothing got done in the office, the whole place was just in shock.
