Where's a good home for this and guesstimates on its value ?

This is probably a good place to find it a home if you are wanting to sell it. Hard to put a value on it since it is so rare. SCSW 5th Edition says a 1954 K-38 Combat Masterpiece in Excellent condition is a $700 gun. Some multiple of that number. Might just show the best pictures you can and maybe the page from the "X" number book. Wait for your mailbox to fill up with offers.
Other thing you could do is list it at one of the big auction houses. Advantage to selling it here is you won't be charged a fee to sell it.

If you don’t have one already, you need to get a historical letter. Verified experimental K frame airweight with adjustable sights? I have to expect it could go for 5 grand or more through one of the respected auction houses IF it can be verified as genuine

Very interesting revolver

BUT

The letter states the frame and BARREL are aluminum. I am skeptical that the barrel is actually aluminum. While an aluminum bore and rifling might stand up to bullets for a while, the rear face of the barrel and forcing cone would erode rapidly and in addition, more than a few K 38 steel barrels have split in that area.

Would the OP please check the barrel with a magnet

Welcome to the Forum! That's quite an entrance you made with your experimental K-38. I'm afraid that I couldn't even hazard a guess as to the value of your revolver...I've never seen any experimental revolver, and have never seen one up for sale. I would be surprised if it was an aluminum barrel, and I don't believe that S&W would line a barrel back in 1953. I don't think that you could get many rounds through an aluminum barrel before there was some severe erosion. It's a really cool piece, and I'm sure that there are collectors that would pay a pretty penny to own it.

"At least" 9 made, no 2 alike. Unless someone can show a likelihood there were other runs, this is probably a 1 of 1. Way too rich for my blood and us mere mortals will probably never know what it sells for. I, too, would like to know the backstory before it re-disappears into a private collection for another 50 or 100 years.

.850 ramp front sight??? What does that mean? It can't be the height or the width since that equals more than 13/16".

It appears the sight base/blade are a separate piece and the quoted measurement may be the height of the base and blade.
You nailed it. Look at the book entry Kevin posted in Post 16.
