So nobody thinks I was trying to hijack the post, I voted combat grips, and specifically, exactly like Maximumbob54's in post #13. I have a set just like those on my L-Frame 619 and they work really well for me. They are the most comfortable wood grips I've ever used and they will go on all RB S&Ws that own in the future. Ahrend's must have used a model of my hand when they made them because they fit my hand like custom made. Of course, YMMV.

Ahrends is just about the only finger groove grips you will see that statement made over and over. I read it several times before I bought mine and I say it about them pretty often. I used to hate finger groove grips and now these are the only ones I say I really like.

Funny, I used to say the same things about finger groove grips until I took a chance on those Ahrend's. It did take me a little while to get used to the way they looked, that is, until I went to the range.

Hard to believe nobody mentioned Spegel boot grips.I got a set on a used 625-3 3 incher last year and they are the grip I've been searching for[mostly by modifying existing grips] most of my 50+ shooting years. Nick

Finger grooves are hit and miss for me, so when I went shopping for new grips for my 625 I went with Ahrends retro bananas which are combats without the grooves. I like them. The are compact, allow all three fingers a full grip, and yet have no excess length. Perfectly sized for a large revolver, IMO.

Not a great pic, but here they are:

The other gun there is also an N frame and is wearing a set of Hogue's, but the finger grooves on those were custom contoured to fit my hand.

Here are a few MG's with Herrett grips.
First three are modified "Shooting Master", last is Jordan "Trooper":
They are controllable and comfortable (for me) with heavy loads:

I decided to give the Thai grips a try. Turns out that several sellers are offering them, and they look the same, so I suppose there is a local Thai manufacturer offered through several online/Ebay sellers. This somehow made me a little more comfortable than the idea of some guy in his basement making them (though it can still be that). There was one good review of them on this thread, and I figure I'm not out that much money if I don't like them once I get them on the gun.

I got combat style grips that will provide a 3-finger hold, and I may yet buy some boot grips as well (either the Thai grips if I like these, or more likely, the Hogue Bantam grips, though I'm not sure which wood yet).

Here is a link to my completed auction:
WOOD CHECKERED GRIPS FOR S&W REVOLVERS, N FRAME, ROUND BUTT | eBay

If I really like them, instead of boot grips I may go with these:
NEW HANDMADE GRIPS for S&W N FRAME - ROUND BUTT (N4) | eBay

I almost went that way this time, but decided to do a more hand filling (yet still compact) combat grip. If you look closely you'll see that it is kind of a hybrid. The backstrap is open and exposed and the bottom 2/3 is open like a boot grip, but they are longer in the front giving room for a three finger hold.

Ditto. I've went through over half a dozen different grips, half of them with finger grooves and finally found these Ahrends that fit my hand perfectly. I was worried they'd be too small since I have largish palms, but that wasn't the case at all.

See my atavar. Model 21 with Eagle Secret Service. They fit me great. They're slim but the finger grips fill the hand.
