Which grips on your N frame?

The key phrase in that is 'square butt conversion' which should mean what it appears to say, a conversion to square. The X frame grip is one that converts a round butt profile frame to a square butt profile grip. I like the idea, it gives the gun more choices in grips.

So in your experience, have you found the X grip to RB N frame fitment to be acceptable / solid? Seems like I heard once, that they move around a bit.

I only have one of them but have used it on a couple different guns. It appeared to work about like any other Hogue grip does. Sometimes if the grip screw is over tightened the grip will flex out of shape and of course if too loose there's other problems.
It fits my hand well enough and for the money is the best thing going for a round butt gun.

Well, as it appears the X grip frame is a little smaller then the N frame counterpart, I'm wondering if the X grip couldn't be internally "bedded" - kind of like a custom stock on a bolt action rifle, w/ a little bit of black silicone. Carefully applied, of course.

Is that thinking a little TOO FAR out of the box?? ;=]

I thought I remembered reading the grip frame used for the X frame bore more similarity to a round K frame and that the grip will work on a round K, L, N or X frame. Of course, I'm old and forgetful , I could be quite mistaken on that as it's been a few years since I read that.

The description provided on the S&W website states the grips available are "Model 500 Impact Absorbing Hogue Square Butt Conversion Grips."

I've gotta wonder if they mean these grips convert an N frame square butt to the outer dimensions of the X frame grip while using the recoil reducing material and shape of the X grips. I'm thinking they may mean you can have the features and shape of X frame grips for your square butt N frame .... big difference. That could also answer how these advertised grips can work on other frame sizes (K and L).

It may mean they convert a square butt N frame to a round butt X frame outer shape rather than the X frame to a square butt, the former which would seem more logical. If that is the case it is no wonder people are ordering these grips for their N frame round butts, assuming they are like regular X frame grips, and they don't fit right.

I think maybe a more detailed description is needed from S&W to clarify exactly what these grips are....

I've tried about every grip known to man on my N-frames (well, small exaggeration there) and what works best for me are Pach Decellerators. They're ugly, no doubt, but they have two assets that are unbeatable for me. First, they're quite narrow. I have ultra large hands but, for some reason, narrow grips work best for me. Second, they cover the backstrap -- just like the Hogue 500 grips. I have the Pachs on my 27 and my Highway Patrolman and I don't feel any recoil with them. On my 625 JM I have standard Hogue round butt N-frame rubbers. They work fine. I hated the Miculak grips, btw, I just couldn't figure out where to place my hand on them to get a consistant shooting position.

I change grips more often than most women change shoes. For serious range sessions, Hogues, either timber or rubber, work best for me. For carry, I actually like the Magna's. I guess that's what they're for:

I have fairly small hands, and have "Classic" Mdl 21, round butt. The stock grips were too small, even for me.

I tried the Hogue gripper round to square, and it seemed too big, so have a lovely Hogue round wood grip that seems just right.

Oddly enough, my Mdl 25 (sq. butt) has Hogue grippers and fit just fine. Maybe because the 25 is 8 3/4 bl, and the 21 is 4"?

If anyone is left wondering about the Hogue grip issue involving the 500 grips for use on a RB "N" frame here is the final word directly from Hogue. I contacted their customer service and asked if grips were available that covered the whole backstrap like those used on a S&W "X" frame.

So I believe this response solves the mystery as to why people may be unsuccessful with fit when they've ordered the "conversion" grips. It appears the backstrap covering 500 grips are only available through S&W and they do fit RB "N" frames.... Nuff said....

I like these Eagle Secret Service grips. Not alot of fun with full power loads, but they do great with warm/hot .44 Specials.

Put on Hogue mono grip rubber today for the 625JM. I like them! Granted I have not done any idpa or uspsa type of drills/training, but the comfort is there. Price was right, too. $15 delivered. They sound hollow and light compared to the wood JM grips. So far so good. At the very least $15 is an easy pill to swallow and would sell easily should I not find them conducive for quick reloads and managing recoil for my size 10 glove hands.

Ahrends are my favorite

I have medium sized hands (size 10 glove). Fingers are average, almost skinny.

The stock grips on my 625 JM haven't won me over. Yet. I have some Hogue rubber square butt grips coming in but who knows if I'll like them for uspsa.

What grips are on your N frame, what size are your hands and is the N frame a range or daily carry or game gun or something else.

I have medium hands and really like the feel of the Ahrends.

These new PC stocks are made by Altamont. I ordered them for my new Model 21-4. They arrived the same day it went back to S&W for warranty rework, so I popped them on my 625-3 for a range session. They feel really nice. Fit is perfect.
