Hi guys. I'm curious as to which current production revolvers are lock free. I know of the 340, 642, 442(not sure of the performance center versions though). Am I missing any(classic line maybe)?
Thanks

The M&P340 (already noted) comes in both versions.

I guess what I do not understand, is what S&W's rationalization is for this. If they offer SOME models that way, why not all?

Seems like manufacturing cost are higher - w/ the IL included, & I don't think that any of their customer base REALLY prefers the IL...

The ONLY non-lock guns S&W currently offers are variations of the Centennial frame. Those are guns with internal non-exposed hammers. By definition, double action only. Incapable of single action firing.

AFAIK all the current offerings are J-frames. (There was a Centennial L-frame made briefly in the pre-lock era. It sold poorly.). Perhaps S&W feels such guns are so safe, being DOA, no lock is necessary.

My guess, and it is just a guess, is that S&W makes the guns it does without the internal lock because many police departments won't allow their officers to carry them if they have the lock. The small 5 shooters are about the only revolvers that police departments and their cops buy any more.

To get back on subject do you guys know if the Performance Center Centennials come with the lock? I've seen pics of both locked and no lock, so Im not sure if its an option....or if Im seeing newer and older models
Thanks

Certain enclosed hammer DAO designs are the only ones made without the internal lock.
