I had a Rossi ranch hand in .44mag for trade I was offered a 8 3/8 686 no dash or a 19-4 snub. I don't handgun hunt have plenty of 6" guns so i took the 19-4 what would you have done? Here is what I did. My shooting buddy thinks I made a mistake? I put it in this section to avoid any P&R bias.

that is one of the best smith's ever made in my opinion and the
most hansome snub ever made, i had one once and i will have one
again,i want one in blue, nickel and a stainless model 66, yes you
picked the right one!

No question, I'd have gone for the M-19. As a matter of fact, I'm looking for one just like that to round out my M-19 collection.

What are you going to do with it, carry it? If so, good choice! But if you are a weekend warrior that shoots friendly competition then I think the 686 would have served that purpose MUCH better. So tell us, what do you plan on using the gun for?

IMO, the mistake would've been letting that 19 get away. Good choice!

Like I said, what are you going to use it for? Fondling, carrying, or what? It's no collectors piece but would make a nice carry! I'll take the 686 because I like to shoot every weekend for accuracy while taking on other people.

One is a classic, coveted revolver in what many consider its best configuration, no longer made and getting scarcer by the day on the used market.

The other is a decent, utilitarian carbine still in production and available anywhere, anytime.

Assuming the Model 19 is well maintained and in proper working order, I think this is a no-brainer. Congrats.

Was that 686 a post or pre-lock revolver. If it was pre-lock then they no longer make those either. Both are readily available on the open market amd the 19 is not that expensive to buy. I still think it it boils down to what you are going to do with it as do all guns.

I would have definitely taken that trade. The one SW I lament selling most was my short tube M19. I think you made a great trade!

That would have beem a no-brainer for me - the 19 in a heartbeat.

Come to think of it, everything is a no-brainer for me:rolleyes:

Regards,

A.

It will be a fondle and occasional range gun!!! PlSTU is my shooting partner who thinks I made the wrong choice

Seems to be a pattern developing here.

You wound with one of the classiest carry guns ever built. It will shoot accurately out to reasonable handgun ranges with the best of them and do it in style.
I'd have made that trade in a heart beat.

I would have taken either one over the Ranch hand for sure. Its a shame someone carved their initials in the 19 because it is gorgeous. I would have probably taken the 686-0 8 3/8", but you made the right choice-The one you wanted and makes you happy! Value wise they are probably neck and neck. I think you made a good trade.

Range gun! Lol. If you bought it for a range gun over a long tube 686 you made the WRONG decision. Do me a favor, when we team up to shoot competitively PLEASE leave that snubby "range gun" at home. Don't lie to these good people.... U are going to go back to fondling and owning a gun just to own and look at it. That's fine ACCEPT you told me you were do e doing that! These guys don't know the whole story, you should have gone with the 686. It's worth more and a better shooter. The 19 is GORGEOUS and a great carry but we all have a better chance in meeting GOD then you carrying that gun!!! Lol

There is a very nice nickel one just like it for sale on this very forum asking $565 SHIPPED! How can such a rare incredible piece of Smith history like that still be for sale? LOL. Try buying that 686 for that price in THAT condition....... bad trade,
