White Lettering on 15-22

I've never seen people get so excited over a crayon before. Next up on Sesame Street, the letter 'C' :)

Anyway, I got four words for you guys: Acrylic polymer paint (don't use regular model paint, get the paint made for use on polymer)

Whoops, thats only three, ok the fourth one is: Sealant

I make my own custom suppressors, and I buy OEM unmarked polymer cases for them for storage. When I mark the cases I stamp the information of the suppressor on them and then use the paint to color the letters, just like you guys want to do. Let it run through the grooves and fill the letters, clean up any excess, dry it, seal it, will last a longggg time. If you screw it up don't blame me. Be real careful when applying it and there will not be much to remove and keep it in the grooves.

pics aren't that good but what else to expect from a cell phone cam

I did the "tacti crayola" myself and it looks great. I took it out to the range on this past week and it was really hot outside. I thought that it might melt away a bit but I had absolutely no problem at all. it looks great. I used white and red. I might take some of it out and try out some other color schemes.

a hair dryer heating the gun and the crayon at the same time works awesome! Really fills in the gaps and makes it flow evenly.

Well I'm in florida and I shoot on about 100 - 200 acres of private property and it gets pretty hot here mid day. I put about 300 rounds through my 15-22 in one afternoon and after the heat and sweating, I checked the lettering and it seemed to be holding out pretty good.

OK, Just picked up my 15-22 and definitely going to try this today. Two questions:
1. What is the better method: hair dryer or heat gun, or irrelevant?
2. While appying crayon, how do you remove all of the bits of wax on the polymer, oil, wd-40? What is a safe lubricant to use on this beautiful finish? Thanks in advance !

"tacti crayola"
Did mine yesterday. Looks great!!! IMHO looks factory. I also like the fact that it's easly removed.
I'm pretty sure that S&W has noted the white lettering as well. The new HK416-22 has it, and others.
I can see 20 years down the road, owners talking about crayola guns(all black), probaly bring some money also.
I really like the look S&W.

I used a hair dryer because I have one. Used Rem-Oil because I had some. I think WD-40 would work just fine. I took the lower to work today, and everybody(gun guys) were like WOW!!!

This truly is an easy process. A simplistic addition of aesthetic glory to this gun! You never realize how plain the gun looks until you start jazzin. I exhibit virtually zero creativity, thus my colors match what almost everyone else does, but I think the white contrast to black is awesome, as well as that is what the real MP looks like. I colored the backside all white as well. I used REM oil clothes to clean up the residue. I applied the crayon, let dry and re applied to fill the grooves. I have shot in the rain since the app;lication and had no issues with it coming out. Heat is vital to gain uniformity in the wax, just dont touch the lettering until it cools, a small portion of my 22 has my finger print engraved because I grabbed it to early while it was hot!

I used lacquer stiks - have put a few thousand rounds through- and many cleanings - hot days etc since and it looks almost the same as the day I did it.

Hmmmm......when me and my friends were younger we used to melt crayons into the "motorola" letters on our beepers with a lighter then scrape the excess off. Wonder if that would work here? It was a really quick way to do it.

Easy now.....

I used ultra white....nail polish.
Came out great!!!

Paint ?

Hi Foxtrot, Do you have a source for the polymer paint and sealant ?

Observation

I too like the looks of the different colors. However, I would not use anything permanent unless you're absolutely sure you're going to keep the gun. I tricked out my PC version with crayola and I'm glad that is all I used because I'm going to either sell it or trade it in shortly to pay for my much anticipated purchase of the M&P 15 Sporter. What looks good to me might de-value the gun to someone else. It took me about an hour to completely remove the crayon using a tiny screwdriver and a pick.

I did color each of my mags. S&W logo with different colors so if I was to have any problems it makes it easier to keep track of what went where.

An idle mind is the devils playground. After saying to myself I would not follow the herd and would never do the tacticrayon thing. Well I finally did the dirty deed. I really didn't have anything else I wanted to do to my 15-22 so what else could I do except start taking it back down to stock and that isn't going to happen. I am not doing one more thing ( that is what I have said several times before ) as it is perfect now.
