Who Conceal Carries N-Frame S&W Revolvers?

Not a lot of holster makers make a top of the line holster for a S&W 625-8 JM 4" and I am very choosy. I don't mind having to save up to pay for a good quality holster because I am so picky about the quality of the leather and the construction. I don't consider $200 dollars high for a great quality holster from a known holster maker. I have found if they use the best quality components and craftsmen that quality costs. :)

I carry a 5" 629 "Classic" (full under-lug) .44mag, stoked with full-spec 240gr Underwood JHP's. From pajamas-off until pajamas-on, every day. In a homemade under-the-shirt vertical cloth shoulder holster rig. Very comfortable and well concealed. And I'm not a big guy ... I've shrunk down to about 5' 6" and 125 lbs in my old age.

I use a VERY relaxed grip ... relaxed shoulders, wrists, and relaxed and flexed elbows. The recoil gets soaked up just by the inertia (mass) of my forearms, with the result that the gun is very comfortable to shoot. The only downside to that technique is that it results in a LOT of muzzle rise ... about vertical, and that has gotten me kicked off of two different indoor ranges (because it violates their rule of always having the muzzle pointed down-range).

I also shoot strictly single action. I re-cock the hammer (with my weak thumb) between shots as the muzzle is coming back down, so it really doesn't slow me down any.

Trust me I realize just how great we have where I live. It is a huge state with a small population of mostly real good people that respect each other, each others rights and ways. Harder and harder to find places like this in the world.

BTW 6'3" and around 300#

Wyoming is like that, as you know, but we try not to let anyone else in on the secret. Open carry, concealed carry, no permits required, carry in your vehicle (loaded or empty - if you're stupid it's on you), carry on your horse, etc. Still, I try to be discreet though I see people open carrying all the time and no one bothers them. We just try not to mess with each other here. I have a 3 1/2" M27 and a 3 1/2" former M27 in Colt 45, among other N frames. If I carry one of them, it's in a Simply Rugged pancake or a Roy Baker pancake.

I'm 6'1', 190 lbs.

El Paso Saddlery made mine.

I know I loved the ten years I lived in Casper. I worked in the Casper Amoco oil Refinery and my wife ran Signes Restaurant until a pyromaniac torched it. We had Laramie Insurance which the Wyoming State Insurance Commissioner of Wyoming at the time helped his brother set up fraudulently and they got busted by the FBI so were sentenced to 30 years in Federal Prison but of course we the defrauded got a penny on the dollar from the State of Wyoming in settlement.

I loved Wyoming! Great State and for the most part Great People! I miss it! :)

I love Wyoming too...

When I first got out of the Army, my Dad gave me a 6" Model 28-2 "Highway Patrolman". I put more rounds through that revolver than any other firearm I've ever owned. Still have it too, don't believe I could wear it out in three lifetimes. I carried it in a shoulder holster until I could afford my Model 36 "Chief's Special".

I am a picky chap when it comes to holsters. Most, nearly 90% of my leather is from custom makers NOT the big factories. The big factories produce leather buckets that accept a range of different revolvers instead of maker a holfster that fits your revolver. For example, I just asked a maker to craft a holster to fit my S&W Model 22-4. He did not have such a model in his collection and suggested we go with acModel 625 Mountain Gun instead. I reasoned the only difference was the adjustable vs fixed sights so sure, why not. Turns out a holster that is actually built for a skinny barreled N frame with adjustable sights is too big for a skinny barreled N frame with fixed sights! Yet the big factories, Safariland, El Paso, etc say one size fits all. I find going with a custom maker is less money for more features and a perfect fit.

I have carried a S&W 58 in my shoulder holster often . I'm a lefty so I needed a custom made . Dave LeFlour @ Cochise Leather made it for me . I find it does the job . Regards Paul

I understand "lefties" problems because though I personally am right handed every other child in my family comes out left handed. It works out at family reunions as we just put all the righties on one side of the table and all the lefties on the other. My sister was left handed, and one of my daughters is right handed and one left handed. Funny thing that. :D

When my sister was in grade school they would tie her left had to her desk trying to make her use her right hand; which made me a VERY ANGRY young man that adults could be that ignorant!

I had a 4th grade teacher that insisted I switch over to right handed . She even came to our house one evening . My parents put a stop to that . Over the years I have learned to use my right hand comfortably . All power hand tools are set up for right handed people so I learned to use them right handed . Even things like scissors , tape measures etc are designed for right hand use . Pencils and pens are some of only a few things universally left and right handed ( lol ) . Regards Paul

I sometimes carry a Stainless Mt. Gun in .45 Colt under a loose t-shirt but I've gotten to where I like my 1911's better for concealed carry. The Mt. Gun has become my open carry for summer on the ranch gun. Loaded with half snake shells and half hollowpoints.

Oops, forgot to mention the holster. I've got an O'Rourke pancake for the Mt. Gun. Great holster!

For years I carried a 10mm Kimber 1911 in a homemade under-the-shirt vertical shoulder. But a few years ago, when I was shooting a lot at an indoor range (with both that 10mm 1911 and my 5" 629 "Classic" .44mag), I just realized I just liked the .44mag revolver much more than the 10mm 1911, for lots of reasons, and so I switched. I haven't regretted that change.

I carry my Smith & Wesson 358 Magnum 586 six shot revolver a lot since
we now have defacto open borders since the election. If I am going to a
really bad area I still carry the Glock. I realize my 357 under my light
shirt shows a bulge but with terrorists and criminals able to just walk
into our country now, I want something that will fire a round to shoot
through body armor. Not sure that the Magnum round will always do the
job but I have read it shoots thru metal better than a 45 round.

As for some little old lady knowing I am carrying the gun, I have
concluded that with open borders folks just have to get used to the
necessity of citizens having to gun up with higher powered guns.
I can draw the S&W 357 Magnum faster than I can the Glock since
I carry the Glock in a holster that completely covers it. My holster
for the 357 is a custom made with 3 cartridges on it to carry extra
rounds a left handed holster. If deep concealment is required then
I would need ot carry something else.

I carry concealed at my church, as part of our security team, which is a bit more challenging in our SC summer heat and humidity. I usually carry everywhere, in church, a H&K 2000 or 2000sc, and otherwise, a Sig 365.

I have not been questioned about "...is that bump on your belt/shirt a gun?" but my reply will be "...no, it is my Insulin pump."

Kydex IWB or OWB, depending on the weather. I have an El Paso coming for my only revolver, a new-to-me 4 inch 28-2. Not likely to carry it, though. NV
