Because if they did anything else, they wouldn't be called HUMMING birds.

Just asked a Yellow Bellied Sap Sucker the importance of living up to one's given avian name.

I dunno. Kinda takes all the mystery out of it, don't it?

And what about the whole "be all you can be" in the bird population? What if, perchance, he aspires for more than sucking sap? What now? What then? What after?

Many years ago I worked in an electronics store. One day a customer brought in a stereo receiver that wouldn't work. He told me that it wouldn't play music, it just hummed.

I suggested that maybe it didn't know the words.

For some reason, he didn't think that was funny.

Fortunately, my boss did so I still had a job.

I still think it's funny.

Why do Humming Birds Hum?

Because they cant remember the words.
