Why Do Members Conceal Their Locations??

I'm on a couple other non gun forums a lot (more than here)and I tend to keep my exact location undisclosed. It's rather funny as my ISP shows my location over 30 miles away from where I actually live. That also means I get advertisements for the area they think I live in.

As I live on a large lake about 60 miles North West of Albany there is about 120 miles of shoreline. (so that narrows it down a bit!:)

To NYlakesider: I was going to comment that there is more than one Albany, so we still don't know what state you are from, but your name sort of gives it away. Do you think its worth 1,000 mile ride each way to go to Americade? (Whoops, I forgot I was on a gun forum and not a motorcycle forum, but if you ride I would still like your comment.)

Here's my reason! Like a ham operator once commented; never advertise over the air where you live exactly or when you are going to be out of town cause there are all kind of people out there with monitors who listen in and then target you for theft, same reason here basically anyone with internet access can read these boards and target you for theft

For the most part, crooks just aren't that smart . . .

Not a problem I'm also a fast car guy(and have made long drives to hit some events, including Bowling Green Kentucky a few times), but have not owned a 2 wheeler in a long time. We take the short drive to see the Americade and it's always a good time. Both my kids are Harley guys and my one son has worked security at a couple other regional bike events.

I live on the next big lake West of George and we get to see a lot of the bikes as they love to take cruises over here. It's nothing to see groups of a 100 or more go by(you got to just love the sound of so many Harleys), along with plenty of much smaller groups.

A 1000 is a big drive, but if you have the time and get reasonably good weather it will be a good time. I do see a few that trailer their bikes to this event. Many of the attendees are here for a full week, many reserve motel rooms from year to year. (a good idea as close by places tend to fill up fast) Even as a now non rider I find the event very good and am glad I do live as close as I do.

Be well, Dave

I assume the newer ones are better, but it hasn't been that long since a mobile home that caught fire would burn to the ground in ten minutes. I've seen the results.

But if I could have one anchored five ways on ten acres, half woodland, with a pond full of bass...:)

We had a few trailer fires hre about a week or so ago. One lady-lost all three of her Dogs. :(

A friend ofmine in Bastrop--lost his hime a few years ago--and lost both dogs--nt to the fire--but someone let themout of the yard. A few months later--he did find one of his dogs--the other--still missing.

I've given my address to so many people here over the last ten years. Being anti social I don't expect any surprise visits from anyone. Showing up unannounced can be pretty uncomfortable for anyone that does it. Even family and friends call before they come over. :)

They say the internet....

They say the internet is full of nuts that stalk people and the nuts that inhabit this forum carry guns.:D:D:D

PS: I tell anti-gunners right off the bat that I'm a gun nut. It gets past the opening phases of the argument quickly.

We just went through a big training on identity theft from one of the major nationwide carriers that insure for identity theft. It has nothing to do with paranoia or tin foil. Hackers/Identity thieves go to hobby sites. If you get hacked and you have other peoples information on your computer you can be liable. Are you on your work computer? Think of the implications. People that take precaution should not be minimized.
