WHY DOES EVERYONE WANT TO X SN"S

I guess I really do not understand what benefit someone could gain from knowing your SN# ?? Big brother? Unless it was stolen? Just wondering what the reasons are. Be Safe,

It's just my personal choice to xx out the last 2 digits. It just makes me feel better! There is also no good reason to post the entire number and dating a gun would not be affected by not knowing the last 2 digits, therefore I see no real reason not to xx them out.

When we got married 34 years ago, my wife told me to keep my digits to myself or she would remove them.

I also blur out my car registrations in any pictures or identifying signs or numbers on things in the background of pictures I take before putting them on the internet. The only problem I have with this practice is the occasional reflection from my tinfoil hat. Seriously, I consider serial numbers, tag numbers and even the number on my house nobody's business but mine, so they are removed from pictures I post in public places like gun forums.
