SicSemper...we know what a bomb the 5.56 is....show us your rifle...although...ballistic gel is some expensive stuff..we know what it will do....so show me the gun you shot it with!

AR-15 in a home defense situation... yes? no? That's a very subjective question that turns civil discussions into heated arguments.

... it all depends...in a civilian environment...

What's the length of the AR? A 16" - 20" AR presents challenges moving through the close confines of a typical suburban home. A
SBR works best, but that's another $200 tax stamp I sure as heck don't want to deal with.

What type and weight of projectile are you going to use? What is the construction of the walls in your home? What is the construction
of the exterior walls of your home? How close are your neighbors?

It goes on and on...

IMO, whatever tool you choose to use in a justifiable HD situation make sure to hit center mass. Nothing slows down
a projectile as nicely as the varying density of a criminal's center mass.

You know what the best HD weapon is? The one you have, know how to use, and can get to when you need it. If you have formulated
your families' or personal defense plan around your rifle, right on. I have no qualms. 5.56/223 is a well documented, very deadly round.

Thank you so much; most people fly off the hammer when I mention an AR-15 for HD (same song to).

The AR is a great HD weapon, with the right ammo it has less over penetration than most pistol ammo, yet delivers a devastating amount of energy on target.

I just hate how even gun owner start bashing me, if I I bring it up. Saying how it will go through houses and how it can affect a ruling based on the look a the gun. My dad's
a Fed Judge so I do know that for sure. Why I need so many rounds and over and over again.

That has been my experience too about AR's for home defense, and other topics. Some people are unable to perceive any situation from any other context but their own.

I've found that out of all the forums I visit, this forum is one of the most level-headed. The mods do an good job of setting the tone without being overly aggressive.

Nice set up. What's the deal with covering up the roll marks? I can understand blurring out the SN. ;)

You all are going to laugh at me, I have 3 major HD weapons not including my Sport, My favorite is a Hi Point 45acp with a couple of Mags loaded up with the Winchester XTP and a couple loaded up with Ball ammo, My Walther P1 with whatever flavor of 9mm is on sale. and an old Savage SB100 16gauge single shot shotgun with the ammo sleeve on the buttstock loaded up with slugs. I am very proficient with all three and I am happy with the way my wife shoots them also.
I have heard all the stuff about a Hi Point..and if MaxHax hadnt tried to go super slow and not even clear the barrel with his handload he wouldnt have blown up his pistol. For the money it does what it is intended to do and very well, I would like a really nice 1911 or one of the newer semiautos but I am not a fan of 9mm and most of them are out of my price range ( I was soooo lucky to get my sport). Laugh at me if you feel like it but it works. No more defending just wanted to say that before I felt the need to.

My HD setup is consisted of 2 weapons. S&W 1911 e series "round butt" loaded with Zombie Max. :-) Winchester SX-4 loaded with 00 buck shot with ten in the tube just in case. My primary is my 1911. In my case a long barrel will be not be the best because I cannot creep around the corners or "split the pie" but to each is own. Just my. 02
