Why is frame material missing on my J frame?

So I found this post interesting enough that I got out of my chair, went to the basement, opened the safe and took a look. 317 and 442-1 has bevel, model 36 does not. What a waste of three minutes. OCD anyone?

After reading through the posts, it seems there is some confusion about what the OP is asking about. I hope I am correct in my interpretation as to his question. I believe I have highlighted the area in question on the frame.

Mckenny99, yes that's it, it's there on newer aluminum frames. It's supposed to be. A clean gun will show it is done on purpose. I'm not losing sleep over why. What if the guy that came up with that modification has died, without notes. OMG.

My 637-2 has that. Never noticed it before. Now, a 5-year old thread? Mmmm - ok. I did learn something today.
