Why so little interest in hunting on the forum?

And then there was the time I kneed a Redhead...
Once making a high speed air boat run in the dark, while I was sitting in the front, a Redhead duck jumped off the water in front of the boat. The duck hit my left knee which was probably going about 30 MPH faster than the duck. The guy driving the boat cut the engine to check on my welfare. I was wearing heavy waders and was OK, but the duck was flopping on the deck with a broken wing. We took a duck before legal shooting time that morning, but did not fire a shot. Latter in the day one of that duck's cousins came by the blind and that guy guards my fire place now.

I used to really enjoy bird hunting, especially quail. Between my bad knees, and no birds available, I don't hunt much any more, but I do love to shoot Prairie Dogs. I know that is probably very politically incorrect, but I see it as removing an unwanted pest from cattle grazing grounds. I think the ranchers should pay us to remove them, but it is usually the other way around where you now have to pay for the privilege of shooting them. (You'll note I said shoot, not hunt them).

I am up to talk about hunting all day if you want? I just lost my last 2 farms to developers and then the 3rd farm that I had rights to for 8 years I lost because some doctors from out of state offered the farmer $10k for 2 months...which happens to be during deer season here. Hopefully, I will fair better this year.
Now hunting for game to harvest and eat is a good thing. To hunt just for the antlers or maybe the big tusks, or be able to have a polar bear stuffed for your living room...Not so much.
I used to hunt when I was just a young pup. But now, I have a hard time killing anything....Somehow I'm always reminded of the final scene of the DeerHunter, where Robert De Niro sees that large buck up on the hill all majestic...That's sort of the way I feel now. I'd rather shoot it with a camera. OR...........Drum Roll Please!!!!!
Go to Montana and take all the road kill I can find

I am not a hunter, I've done it its not for me.
I am not anti hunting by any means, its just not my thing
Although I am reconsidering about the deer that eat everything in my yard

Here in CNY where we live, I think there's a tree or two scattered about that we can hunt near.

I grew up hunting, like my dad and his dad. It's something we did on the farm to supplement our food supply. Grandma and mama never talked much about the vegetables they grew and us boys never talked much about the game we gathered. It was just a way of life. I still hunt, not that I can't afford store bought but because wild game is the best there is to be had.

I don't hunt but have relatives that do. It's been a long time since I had venison but I have always loved it. If I had land I would hunt but only for the meat. The sport of it really doesn't do it for me. I come home often to 6-10 deer in my yard, mostly doe but sometimes you do see the bucks. If I lived in the country I think I would know when and where the deer were and would take a few each season just for the freezer. So I sure wouldn't call that hunting. Seems it would be more akin to slaughtering a cow. But what I really don't understand is the logic that "I don't hunt because it cost less to buy enough steak for the freezer". I mean since when did a cow taste like a deer? What am I missing in this thread?

I am an avid Bird Hunter and since I use a Shotgun for that I mostly talk about Bird Hunting on Shotgun Forums. This Forum is primarily Handgun related and so I would think that is the answer to your question.

I love to deer hunt. getting to be time to put out some food plots. got a couple acres worth of frigid forage to put out in a couple weeks. got my eye on a beautiful non-typical 160" 16 point (last year). he was young last year so I passed. I bow hunt only, love the challenge, and shoot guns in the summer time off season between farming and preparation for the following season. here is mine from 2011 season.

Where else can you hunt and buy a $20 Rolex on the way home?
I have heard that only 5% of the US population still hunts and that number is declining. I guess it is from our nation becoming an urban society and the cost of it becoming a rich mans sport. Unfortunately, I feel this decline has also had an impact on the support for the second amendment. On the bright side, Duck Dynasty could bring a lot more people into the sport, and teach a lot of people about family values.

Don't hunt no more
Mainly because I like to sleep late. Seems like every time my deer hunting brother-in-law mentions hunting it involves getting up at 4 a.m.
I'm not up for that anymore. I like to stay up late and watch old movies. Get up late on the weekend and go to the range in the afternoon.
I've forgotten how to field dress a deer anyhow.

I'll be hunting for bear (with a S&W handgun) 4/15/13. Love it. My favorite hunting is probably antelope because I enjoy the spot and stalk as well as being my favorite tasting meat out of my freezer. Elk hunting is lots of hard work. Moose hunting is a rare tag around these parts. Deer are great fun - both mulie and whitetail. But antelope is my favorite.
As far as varmint hunting - yoddle dogs are my favorite. Wolf hunt is always fun too as they are bigger and harder to bag. Canine in the crosshairs is hard to beat.
I love bird hunting too. Fly fishing, bass fishing, deep sea fishing...
If more people hunted for their meat instead of buying it at the store, we'd be a lot better off today as a society. Huge premium in my book for being self-sufficient.
While I don't think the focus of the group is hunting, I think that plenty of us here represent those 5% or whatever of hunters left in our blessed country.

Don't build as many as we used to but........we build high performance recurves/longbows.Split between hunting and tourney use(3D),prolly 50/50.
Bow below is not for sale,it was an R/D bow on why a particular co didn't make an SA one piece.Which we figured out.Will say that wherever this bow goes,it garners quite a bit of interest in the parent co's products.To the point of promoting that co's wares.......
Still Bow hunt,still build them.But reason for response is that I find handgun hunting to be very near the "effort" required for traditional archery.To the point that I hunted with handgun's for a period of about 10 years exclusively,when using a firearm.A Colt Python loaded with lead .38 sp SWC was the prime small game setup.And can't begin to count the Deer that have hit the dining rm table harvested with a 4" old #,629.Probably around 20 or so?Either 180 XTP's,at book max for dbl lung'n Does and smallish bucks.....which rarely require any lookin for.To classic Keith/Lyman 429421 full tilt,2400 loads....for pinning both shoulders when stalking the big boys.

Too had more people dont hunt with handguns, i find it very rewarding!! I have a .44 i use for deer... Not smith but...i do have a pic of my bro in laws hog shot with a s&w460

Though we Creeks prefer Indigenous Pre-Columbian Early Mississippian Mound Builders, or IPCEMMB's
Necessity, being the mother of invention dictated the harvesting of wildlife for survival. A practice engaged by our cousins to the north and west for generations, I do see the confusion.
