bshepherd has it right. Every place has their own terminology, hence all the different acronyms. In WA it's technically a "State of Washington License to carry concealed pistol" and is generally referred to as a CPL, Concealed Pistol License.

Technically CCW, LTCF, and all those others are called Initialisms. Acronyms are letters that spell a word. An example would be S.W.A.T.
Those letters actually spell out a word. The world is filled with way too many initialisms and acronyms. People are going to forget how to form a complete sentence. OMG.
