Why so much .40S&W still available?

In my locale 4 years ago 40 was plentiful, I had been contemplating picking up a Beretta 96 and when I went looking for 40S&W shelves are either empty or hit and miss, no 96 in the near future.
Plenty of 357sig and 10mm?

ran across a place that has 40 SW for sale for $350/1000 rnds. remanufactured ammo.

is this a decent deal?

Not in my opinion. Walmart has been putting out Federal 100 rd for $26ish and 50 rd for $15ish. Winchester WB has been about $34ish and $18ish. If I recall the Fed is 180gr and the WB is 165. They also had WB JHP 50 for about $21

40 has always been plentiful in my area of southern cal as well. when the shelves were empty there was always boxes of 40. it just might not be as popular a caliber. we might have to invest in 40 cal guns for future ammo shortages

.40 is just as scarce here as 223. I just bought an M&P .40 that I'm picking up on weds. I did happen to find 100 rounds of ammo so I'll at least get to try it out. There is a ton of 7.62 around here but 223,40, 45 are all hard to find

I consider it lucky for me! I really like the .40

This one likes them both-- :)
