Why to some people shoot Crows?

I also try to run over every Manatee I see cause they are just ugly

Oh, so you have a copy of Rush's Chipmunk Cookbook too?

Always wanted to try the california condor casserole, but they aren't in season around here.

Lee, rock salt out of a 12ga works pretty good on fleas... ;)

If I may be so rude as to get back on topic....
Crows, like so many other things have their place on this planet. Also, like many other things, when allowed to proliferate they becoming annoying, expensive, and even dangerous pests. They can use a bit of population control in many areas - and believe me, there will never be a danger of eradicating them...they are far too smart for that. And if you think crows are bad, just try having their big bad cousin (raven) set up shop in your yard....you will have to hide in your house with hands pressed over your ears for 2 months while they raise a family. Perhaps the most obnoxious thing I have ever heard - and they can live 25 years! Good thing though, they mate for life - you just need to get one of 'em!

Manatee is the other White Meat.:)

I am actually very fond of them but they have caused a big problem for boaters.

Several years ago we had a building moratorium on build boat docks behind your own house. Why> Because in the wisdom of DNR and ACOE, building more docks means more boats and therefore the endangered Manatee would be doomed.
They then enacted idle speed, no wake zones within 1/4 mile of every shoreline. So know it takes twice as long to get anywhere. They have no actual prood that boats kill manatees they just see prop scars on the backs of dead ones so therefore it must have been a boat. It actually is the winter freezes and red tide. How do they count Manatess? Once a year a few guys go up in a little plane and count how many they see from the air. That's it. If they are submerged or in the mangroves guess they don't count.

Oh and the Spotted Sea Trout that we used to catch all the time. Most are now below the legal limit so they must be released. They are very fragile fish so if gut hooked they do not stand a chance. So you release them as you should and the Cormorants just line up and eat them all. Makes sense to me.

Which brings us to the Florida Panther, which is far more threatened than the Manatee there are only a few in our area. Where did the build the new Jet Port and extend I 75? Right through the Panther habitat. Leveled every square mile of pine forest.

Is there a moratorium on building garages? Is there slow speed only on I 75? No. Every week or so another Panther gets creamed on I 75. Of course they put of those nice Panther crossing signs.

The best control for Crows is the Florida Mockingbirds. They are fearless and will chase anything!

I have a great appreciation of wildlife and life in general. I love people, but I sincerely believe that there are a few million on this planet that sorely need killing. (none of them are forum members!) Some things need to be eradicated, like fire ants, cockroaches, Asian carp, and termites. I don't like to shoot critters that I won't eat, usually, but I will make exceptions. I will and have shot crows just 'cause it's a crow. I have pecan trees in my yard. I hope someday to be able to slaughter prairie dogs and feral hogs, just to do my part to put these pests on the endangered species list.

Actually I saw a crow hunting video made by some ole boys down in AL. They marinated crow over night in Dr. Pepper and Worchestershire sauce, then grilled. I tried it for S&G's and it weren't bad...tasted like steak.

Yeeeeesh! I've seen far too many crows crawling out of the inside of a rotting, road-killed deer to even think about it...marinade be darned!!!!

I love crows.....
(Dead ones)

They are a great rifle target and fun to shoot too.

yes...here in central ny we have a huge crow problem...so bad that
some municipalities hire companies to "scare" the crows into moving
to some other area

they use noise makers, similar to fireworks and also use sirens and whistles and even huge speakers that broadcast some noise that annoys the crows
into leaving town

the only problem: the darn things just take up residence some where else
and it becomes some other area's problem

a whole pack of them together make a racket that is intolerable
especially early in the morning when the sun comes up....

In addition to shooting, my other vice is golf. Around here, you can usually find a "murder" of crows congregated in the trees near the 10th green. They are smart enough to know that golfers pick up a hot dog or a bag of chips at the snack shack, and when the players leave their food unattended in the cart, the crows swoop in for a free meal.

Often wondered if the course sup't would mind me bringing a Benjamin .22 rifle with me when I play? I suppose if I disposed of the carcasses, maybe not too much?

There's some handy little holes you can hide 'em in.....:D

Crow ain't very good-tastes too much like pelican.
I'm still tryin' to figure out how to cook a Manatee - Probably tastes a lot like seal :D

Or you could luck out and they would taste like a cross between a whooping crane and a bald eagle, you know... kind of like a spotted owl! :D

Does that extend on down to rats, mice, cockroaches, fleas, ticks, flies, fireants, and termites?
How about the poor little polio and smallpox viruses, HIV, and staph and TB bacterium...

As long as the list continues to extend until it gets down to moderators then I'm ok with it.

Well, I'm not sure. Baby seal tastes best when clubbed, not shot. Its a Canadian delicacy. Kind of like your drinks shaken, not stirred. The next thing you know, you'll be advocating raw fish (bait).

Thanks for asking about my fleas. They're about gone. The flea shampoo and my collar have really helped. :D

You might want to try Frontline - works great keeping fleas and ticks off my dogs - I'm pretty sure it will work on monkey fur. :p

Marinating the crow wouldn't convince me to eat it. No Sir I would have to be the one marinated. Something 90 proof or better. Probably require at least a fifth and then don't tell me it's crow. Tell me it is fluffy the cat, pureed parrot, pickled owl; anything but crow.

I knew a girl that had a pet crow. He liked to bite you and snatch the treat you were trying to feed him. Then he would do this horrible squawking laugh at you. Most of the time he would just stand there on his perch and watch you. It was kind of unnerving at first. Sometimes he would feel the need to join in the conversation. And if you were eating something then you had better be prepared to give him some or suffer some wrath. At first he would just yell at you. Then he would just come and take some and bite you. She kept his wings clipped just enough for limited flight but not lift. So he also liked to climb furniture or curtains and dive bomb you if you ignored him too long. I thought it was pretty nice that he would always go back to his perch to do his business. She swore she didn't teach him that. All in all it was as close to keeping a pet troll as I can imagine. Terrible but in an interesting and keeping you entertained kind of way.

Must have been one heck of a girl for you to put up with all that! :D

Plant a garden and you'll shoot crows too!!!

Changing the subject slightly:
DO you know what drives an enviromentalist crazy?
An endangered species eating another endangered species.

All animals have their place. They also have an optimum number per acre that needs to be achieved in order for that species to thrive. If a crow has any predators, I'm not aware of them.
