Will I get kicked out for hacking this 3.5” M27?

I recently gladly overpaid for a 3.5" M27 for a few reasons:
- It was local
- I always wanted a 3.5" N frame
- I had the money
- I make bad decisions

Anyway, it's a good shooter with serious finish issues. It came with the 3 T's, which I really don't care for, especially on a short barrel. I am thinking about trading the stocks for magnas and a Tgrip, and grinding down the hammer to a semi target profile, and the trigger to the "combat" width.
What do you guy think? Any special value to a 3.5" with 3T's?

It probably came with all those features as stock. Trading out the stocks is easy and not permanent, and I would suggest swapping in a service width hammer and trigger and save the original parts. Good luck in your decision.

It’s unfortunately pretty pitted in a couple of spots right above the grips on both sides.

Well hopefully you overpaid relative to the flaws rather than the gun.
It will make a great shooter.

You should try to find factory parts you want before grinding on yours. On the other hand it's your revolver so you decide what to do with it...

Just my opinion.

When you posted "hacking a 3.5" m-27", I thought of the barrel not the H&T. What a relief! Your gun, grind away. A little bit of blue war is OK.
Have fun with it and shoot the poop out of it. You aint going to hurt it.

If you prefer the smooth trigger, find a .312 smooth trigger. I think its the best of Smith's triggers.

Unfortunately I think you’re right. But that means putting more money into a gun that has no collector value. And I am lazy and don’t want to have to fit the parts…

Don’t grind on a model 27, others have suggested some good options but if you do just don’t talk about..

Fitting parts which may actually not need fitting wouldn’t require more effort than the grinding. My two cents and it may not be worth that..

FWIW, I believe the 3-1/2” bbl M27 looks better with magna grips.

Daniel, just remember your lessons form shop class. Safety glasses, gloves and a can of water to cool the part. Just take your time and dont change the color of the piece.

I for one would like to see pictures of the rust and pitting. I would not modify any original part. Get spare parts to bob and smooth out

If you get a regular width hammer and trigger as a set there is a good change they would work fine, no fitting involved and less work too.

You have a shooter grade revolver. Make it fit you and have fun.

Apparently it falls to me to actually answer the OP's question: yes, if you modify this magnificent revolver in any way you will have the buttons stripped from your blouse, the 3.5" barrel broken over a knee, and be beaten from the fort. Your only hope of salvation might be to sell it as-is to one of us. (the line forms at the rear)
