I see guns sold in the classifieds for way more than I'd ever dream of paying, yet someone here bought it, sometimes in minutes.
There may be a market price for new guns, but for out of production, hard to find and the like, all bets are off.
I've run an ad for 3 1/2 months in the classifieds with not one offer to sell a non bumpered 3953TSW at any price.
Did you buy it yet?

It never hurts to ask for a better deal in a store.
I've often asked it open-ended like that,
sometimes they'll come down more than you expected,
and sometimes they'll not move a penny down
Look at it this way, since so many Rep's are going to stay home,
Hillary will win and then gun prices will shoot thru the dang roof again,
so buy it now, and watch the prices triple after she gets in office,
if she doesn't ban 90% of 'em outright...
which means the black market will then be a seller's only choice...
like in Commiefornia, where Brown just screwed legitimate gun owners.
Prices through the roof. Was at a gun show last week. I attend 6 to 8 a year. Prices for AR's way down and they said 'not for long'. Generally the line at 9am would be 50 -100 people long and it moves fast. Last time when Obama got in, the line was about 1/4 mile. Our nice quiet sport has been destroyed by people who have no idea what they are doing.Here's the funny part, they don't believe their action have anything to do with sales. Even stranger- The AR prices were over the top, if you could find them. But ammo shortage lasted a short time.............( this is Pa. I don't know about the other States) Picture this- US Military changes side arm. Also rifle caliber to that .277 round. Can you picture the market then. A true Mad House. Just my luck.. I have all I need. Well, have been looking at the Sig 227 and the new S&W Revolver .45 acp. I could force myself.

To determine market price, I start out at retail. Then I start looking for ads to see what the going asking price is. That works for most guns out there. For the more unusual or discontinued items, I still search out ads, both on commercial sites like GB, and on forums like this one. GB reminds me of ebay in that they do get a lot of bidders who are either uninformed on what an item should sell for (both bidders and sellers), or they want something bad and price be damned. And just like ebay, I take those sales and pretty much ignore them. I'll look instead for BIN sales, which may not be available at the price I'm willing to pay immediately, but patience is a virtue and hasn't failed me yet.
Ihump1961, Have you bought it? I would make a offer on it and ask what his bottom line is on the price. Everybody has a bottom line which generally is lower then you wish to pay.Thats probably why he has it priced as high as he does as it gives him room to go down somewhat. Thats what I would do if I were the seller.

I've paid $1000 for an old Smith pistol without a second thought because it was what I wanted. Then there's those pistols that others would pay $1000 for that I won't even give a second look. So do you really want it and are you willing to pay the price?

For me, even if it were "overpriced" by $50-100, so what? Again, somewhat rare gun, no offers to sell closing in on 4 months.
I'm not the kind who waits 2, 3, 4 years just to "buy right". What's $100 over a couple years.
I don't drink, smoke, or play the horses.
In other news, SWHC is approaching $28, up some 6-700% over the past 5 years.

I see you are a devotee of the infamous BAM Formula. Just make sure you've got enough of them "good years" left to amortize your BAM Formula premiums!
I'm fast running out of "good years" myself so that approach doesn't work for me.

Star's last Generation models...(Firestar, Ultrastar, Megastar)
A Grant Hammond .45acp...(Which is, honestly, a huge piece of junk,
but historically important, so I want one )
Since I go into around 10-20 pawn shops a month in three states,
one never quite knows what'll pop up,
so keeping a 22nd edition Stoeger Gun Trader's Guide on hand is a plus.
Why such an old one? Better writeups on those 80's & 90's pistols I like
