There was a great article I can no longer find describing the utter disaster this years Oscars show was before it descended into farce. I think the Oscars folk got it pulled, but it described inappropriate music, throwing in the recorded awards at the most inopportune times, going to commercial at ridiculous times, etc.

You would think an entertainment industry would actually know how to do this properly.

Perhaps the greatly escalating trend towards no repercussions for your actions is turning. If it wasn't staged, making fun of a sick person deserves a smack. Although it would have been more effective with a closed fist.

Smith's wife has said fairly recently she did not give a rip what anyone said about her hair loss.
If Will was going to slap somebody, maybe one of the men his wife has been having sex with would have been a better candidate.

Two things you don't make fun of, a man's wife and his children, to do so would leave you open to chastisement. In my case, chastisement would include a month-long trip to the ICU.

The grossest thing I've seen yet is the idea that responding to words [other than a direct threat] with violence is acceptable.

Not in this country.

I am reminded of the 5-22-1856 caning and near death beating inflicted on Charles Sumner by Preston Brooks. Even in the halls of Congress and when attempts were made to end the beating others held up weapons and said "Let them fight." Hardly a fight, Brooks eventually broke his cane but continued to beat Sumner with the broken head.

I feel, all involved such as actors and awards show have not been relevant for over 20 years in pop culture. Perhaps, this is analogous to the super bowl half time show wardrobe issue. That is, scripted.

Should it not be, interesting slap, I guess.

The award show was slightly interesting many years ago when famous starts like John Wayne and Elizabeth Taylor and Cary Grant were making movies. Also, back then only a few movies were made every year and when they did the credits many of us had actually seen the movie.

Today, nobody watches the award show and more because they have become totally irrelevant.

I bet this whole thing was staged. Just look, its over and we are still talking about it. I also bet the viewership goes up next year.

In any event, both the slapper and the slappee are irrelevant anyway.

I did not watch the awards due to the presence of one of the hostesses whom I dislike intensely for her extreme anti-gun positions, and her relation to a prominent member of Congress.

It doesn't take a whole lot to stage something like this. I was in a production of "It's a Wonderful Life" and played the part of Mr. Bower, the druggist. There was the scene in the movie where Mr. Gower is drunk and slaps young George Bailey upside the head. The young man made the sound effect by clapping his hands when I swung and he turned his head and body and it went off without a problem.
