There was a great article I can no longer find describing the utter disaster this years Oscars show was before it descended into farce. I think the Oscars folk got it pulled, but it described inappropriate music, throwing in the recorded awards at the most inopportune times, going to commercial at ridiculous times, etc.
You would think an entertainment industry would actually know how to do this properly.

When Drive My Car won best international film, its director, Ryusuke Hamaguchi, was literally pushed off the stage after his first few sentences.
