Will these chips in the barrel shroud affect the functioning of the gun?

Without opening the photos I would guess chips in the finish. It would take a lot of force for wood to damage any gun metal.

And unless it is on the muzzle crown, even metal damage should not affect accuracy.

Those little dings would bug me, but won't affect the use of the gun.

The OP has no control over what shows up when you go to Imgur, other than the image he linked.

I don't get it. Anything one purchases, let alone something from which a bullet is fired, is bound to pick up nicks, scratches, etc. We can't be that picky, right?

Looks like a couple of little nicks or dents. Don't worry about it. It effects nothing. If it's a carry gun it's a tool. Tools show wear. Call it character if you want. All of my old duty guns are pretty banged up as are all of my carry guns that I've had a good while. I never abused them. I used them.

Man, I get wanting it to be perfect!

I'm a little OCD, especially with the stuff I spend a lot on (OK, maybe a LOT OCD.)

When it comes to the little things like scratches and dents on my guns, particularly the ones I use all the time, I've had to just wince and ignore it as long as it's still perfectly functioning.

Although, there was that one time I dropped a PPK/S on a tile floor and dented the back of the frame! I couldn't sell that flawed little monster fast enough....

I have a Model 38 that fell out of my Ballistic vest holster one night. When I got called out while I was on a Camping Trip. Due to the fact that a local bad guy shot his girlfriend in the chest. so those scratches and dings make memories some good some bad.

Don't really get how a wooden table could put dings like that into metal. I would run my finger nail over them and see if it's just paint or actual dings. You can feel the difference. If just paint, they will come off with some lighter fluid or similar solvent. If actual dings, after you remove what looks like paint to me (hard to tell from your picture), they won't be too noticeable.

If that is your EDC gun, look at it as if it was a tool, or every day accessory you carry, etc. Things like that always pick up minor dings, dents, scratches, etc. You can't use a brief case, wallet, watch, glasses, automobile, every day without picking up minor damages along the way. A gun is no different. If this was an antique, collectible or rare piece, then I might be upset, but life isn't perfect - as much as we all want it to be.

It's only the first one that hurts so much - lol. Son't beat yourself up - life happens......

those are called character and do nothing to effect function or acccuracy. If you actually use guns occasionally things like t that will happen and as Chief38 said the first time hurts the most.

Since I was a kid I always wanted a Browning Superposed Shotgun. About 25 years ago I finally found a brand new in the original luggage case, Browning Superposed 12 gauge exactly in the configuration I wanted, (actually built in the late 1950's I believe). After buying it in 100% condition, I proceeded to use it a week later for my week of Pheasant hunting. I have used it for that purpose as well as Sporting clays and trap for all those years as well. Yes it has gotten some minor dings, scratches and marks but every one was made by me while enjoying the days activities. Some might question the wisdom of spending more money for a NIB example rather than to buy a lesser condition version. Well, that 's just the way I like it and I know every ding and scratch is mine! I would estimate at least 15,000 - 18,000 shells have been fired through it and it still works like the day I bought it. Given anther lifetime I would do what I did all over again - I like all the "beauty marks" to be mine. lol!

Soooooo - don't fret the small stuff. Take it in your stride. Oh and BTW, I am pretty OCD about my guns.
