Winchester M-22

I haven't tried any Winchester yet. I have read about good and bad experiences people have had with their .22lr ammo. I think it is interesting that they are jumping on the "tactical" rimfire bandwagon... I would hope that if they are going to make ammo for the AR platform .22 that they would have addressed the issues people have been having.

Yea I have also read good and bad reviews of winchester 555. For me it seemed like the brass was just too soft so my extractor wasn't able to get a hold of it when the case was in the chamber. So I ended up have double feeds ever other round.

hopefully since they are round nose and lubed they'll feed better and not foul up the barrel. since it's winchester i certainly wouldn't pick up more than 1 box for testing.. i only made it about 1/2 way through the 555 before it fouled up my barrel and caused major accuracy (and cleaning) issues.

From the looks it may be decent. Lubed, copper plated, round nose, 40 grain. Looks to compete with the CCI Tactical, which is a great round. If that Winchester M-22 came in boxes of 50 I'd love to test a couple boxes before jumping on a case of 1000...

I can't understand why some people bad mouth the Winchester hollow points. Those copper plated 36gr. hollow points give me the best accuracy of any round I have tried- 3/4" three shot groups at 50 yds are common. As my skills have improved, I am now experencing some 3 shot one hole groups. I have not seen that with other ammo. I have had maby one or two failures to feed. I love that ammo!

I just bought a 333 box of Winchester at Wal Mart. Almost done with the box and not one FTF or FTE. Works just as good as the Federal bulk in my 15-22.

I had a box in my hand as well when I was at Gander Mountain this weekend (buying my 15-22p), but I put it back because I hadn't heard any reviews and I didn't see the price. I shoot SuperX HP's in my 15-22 and it has been an excellent performer for me. We need a guinea pig!

That's really odd cuz I also didn't see a price anywhere on the shelf which also turned me away

It's like they got in in and just threw it up there with the other .22 bulk. The Super X we shoot is rated at 1280 with a 40gr hp bullet. I was checking online and its looking like the price for the M-22 is around $50 for 1000 rounds (maybe an hours worth the way we shoot). $.05 a shot would be nice if the performance is on par with the Super X cause that is like $.07 a shot. I just really like the way the Super X feels when you shoot it. The CCI MiniMag was just as reliable, and often cheaper, but it just seems like the Super X hits a little harder and cracks a little louder, and when you are plinking that just seems to make it more fun.

I'd be willing to try out one of these in a smaller quantity. I've gone through some Winchester Super-X 1300fps HV rounds and their 333 box to much success. The hollowpoint 333's are surprisingly a very accurate round on par if not better than CCI minimags. My gun loves the stuff and hates the Federal Bulk box. I found a walmart with some leftover 555 boxes so I'll see if they're just as good for my gun or not.

I guess that's the other 'fun' thing about these semi-auto 22's huh, the whole search for its favorite ammo. Everyone has a different selection of them.

just ordered a box of these, and a box of federal spitfire shipped free from gander mountain. I'll post how they are once they arrive...
if this stuff is no good it'll be the last winchester 22lr purchase i make.

Bought a box today. Will go to the range in the morning. What is Black copper coating? Look alot like Remington Thunderbolt.

just did a little reading, i think it's a chemical finish on the copper that allows the lube to adhere better to the plating on the bullet.

"Bit the bullet" and bought a box while picking up my 15-22p today. $49.95 at Gander Mountain. I hope they shoot good cause I got 1000 of them! Just for reference, the big box contains 2 smaller boxes of 500. The projectiles look like the wildcats, but the brass is stamped Super X.

Today I shot about 400 rounds of M-22. I had no FTE, and one FTF that fired the second time through. Groups were as tight as the AR tactical I brought along to compare. Wierd thing was their point of impact was slightly right of where the AR tactical would hit, but not enough to adjust the sights at 50 yards. At 25 yards they were on top of one and other. The M-22 also is alot cleaner to shoot.

Sounds like a winner! I will report in when I shoot mine this weekend. I like the fact that it shoots a lot cleaner. I shot about 300 golden bullet through my gun just to get rid of it and that stuff shot okay, but was it dirty!

sounds sweet. i should have mine tomorrow. if it's just as smooth loading, accurate, cleaner and cheaper than cci tactical it's a winner for sure.
