My local shop has this fine load back in stock. I'll pick up a box after old stock is consumed.

Any difference from older versions I wonder???? Hope that it is not watered down. The factory ballastics still show 890 fps from 4 inch vented test barrel.

The original loading from mid 1970s clocked approx 935 fps according to my old records from 4 inch S&W Mod 10. I tested it at a range who had a chronograph, both owner and building are long time gone...those were the days when revolvers were the primary handguns and marksmanship, rather than double tap nonsense of today, was impressed upon us shooters.🔫

If you want it consider picking it up now. I just bought a couple of boxes after having it on backorder for close to four years. They may not make it after the next shortage. Everyone seems to be convinced they need $2/round bonded HP.

I think I have a lifetime supply of the FBI Load in my stock. I have Remington, Winchester and Federal variants.

I like the Winchester FBI Load and if the three I find the Win to be the most accurate. I too feel you should buy a box or two now because that load is only done on special runs now and might not be available again for years.

The OLDER versions of the FBI Rem & Win loads were quite viable back in the day, but like many things made today, the NEW stuff by those two Company's are vastly watered down versions and I would not want to carry them. The old stuff from years ago was much better! Not just an opinion, but from my ACTUAL Chronograph testings.

The two best SD .38 Special +P loads are NOW: Buffalo Bore +P LSWCHP-GC ) 1025 - 1040 fps from a 2" Chief's or Dick Special and the Speer Gold Dot Short Barrel 135 grain +P JHP which does 835 - 845 from the same 2" bbls. The Rems & Wins will give you 750 - 760 from a 2" bbl. To me, that's only standard velocity performance and you DO have a choice.

I buy the Speer or Hornady swagged 158gr LSWCHP's and hand load to duplicate the factory velocities for their +P ammo.

I have found the following loads will get the 890 to 900 fps from 4" revolvers and around 780 fps from a 2" snub nose: 4.5 to 4.7gr of W231, 3.8gr of Tight Group and 5.0 to 5.2 gr of Unique.

I also like 4.7 grs HP38/231 with 158 gr swaged SWC as my 38 Spl +P load. Powder measures great and more accurate than my Unique +P loading with 5.2 grs.

I did measure some years back MV near 900 fps +/-
