I've been watching and waiting for the latest monthly Windows update to disable a "KB" that conflicts with my tax software. This morning I decided to go to Control Panel > Windows Update and run a manual update. However, when I attempted to do so I received the message "Windows Update Cannot Currently Check For Updates Because The Service Is Not Running". I am running Windows 7 Professional 64-bit.
I located this article on the Internet:
Windows Update Cannot Currently Check for Updates Because the Service is Not Running | Dell US
The "Last Date Modified" is 02/07/2018 which means that the problem or issue is very recent. I also found a similar article on the Microsoft website:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-us...eck-for-updates-error-message-when-you-try-to
I followed all of the procedural steps and it worked. Eleven updates were installed. After the first re-boot I ran the Windows Update program again and there were three more updates that were installed.
I also had to perform this repair on my Dell laptop which is running Windows 8.
In my opinion, before I made this repair, I was not receiving any Windows updates, especially those that relate to security and malicious software removal.
My recommendation is to check the "Windows Update" in the Control Panel of your computer system to confirm that Windows Updates are still enabled (working).
I know. Those who have Apple computers don't have these headaches!
