I was in Academy today buying something for my daughter and had to wait by the service desk (and we all know what is kept up there) while they were checking to see if the item was in stock in the back. I looked over at where there is usually a bunch of Aguila Super Colibri with no gunpowder, and MAYBE a few boxes of some of the good stuff of the same brand, and noticed that there were a bunch of slightly bigger green boxes sitting there as well. I have actually never seen Remington Golden Bullets in stock anywhere until today So I didn't know what they were.

I have plenty of 22LR and didn't plan on buying any more for a very long time so I guess that's why I didn't really pay attention at first. I had to talk to the guy at the podium at the entrance for a few minutes and for some reason my curiosity got the better of me. I looked over at the ammo again and there were only like three left. At that moment I saw a customer that was actually in the line next to the customer service desk see the green boxes and he instantly had the look of a kid at the sight of whats under the Christmas tree on Christmas morning. He asked for one. Then after a few more minutes of waiting there was one left.

I decided I'd go look and see what all the fuss was about so I walked around to check it out. It was $525 rounds for $20? No wonder! I believe in karma and refuse to become a hoarder but I couldn't help but buy the last one because I have a friend that is definitely 100% against paying the current "normal" price for 22lr. So, I knew I could sell it to him for what I paid for it and he's always saying he needs some. It feels good to help out a friend and potentially keep it out of the hands of a scumbag price gouger or one of those people that just hogs it all up for themselves even though they already have a two year supply.

Remington golden bullets for $20. I may spend $2 on those. But that's only if I couldn't find any other ammo on the shelf at that time. Fortunately for me .22lr stays on the shelves down here for awhile. And CCI is starting to show up all over the place more often.

Let us go easy on the diatribe towards the "scumbag price gouger". Everyone has a purpose in life and they can always serve as a bad example.

They are just fine for the M&P 15-22. If they were readily available like they used to be I'd definitely buy them. It would be silly to pay more for other brands when all I do is plink and shoot paper targets.

I'd take Rem Golden Bullets before any Federal lightning here recently. Got two buckets lately for $77 each. Shared one, shot the other. Last week I was running 7 fails (various) of 10 rounds of Federal, 1 fail in 225 rounds of RGB.

I hear ya. Seems like it doesn't really matter in the long run. The M&P 15-22s are prone to be finicky anyway. You may experience the exact same results again next time but with the RGBs on the failing end. Knowing that it doesn't really matter makes me want to stick with the cheapest I can find. I just wish the hoarders and ammo scalpers would go away so they were readily available again.

All of the box stores in NJ are clean out of all .22LR again. It was starting to get better until the M855 proposed ban and the hoarders fired up again. A lot of gun stores are charging $40/300 for CCI AR Tac, Mini-Mag and Rem GB. I am lucky that the store/range I go to has plenty of CCI but they limit to one brick per person, per day and charge $30. I know that still isn't cheap but we get 10% off for being range members. I buy a brick and my wife buys a brick. I don't hoard years worth of ammo. I buy enough to get through 2 or 3 range days which is about 1000 rounds of every caliber we own.
