Ok, so after 2 years (or more) I finally picked up S&W auto - this one is a 4006 with the decocker/safety. Came with 3 11 round mags. TONS of holster wear, and the grips are a bit chewed up, but the guts of the thing look GREAT. Whomever carried this thing must have had to buy their own ammo, because this thing hasn't seen many rounds as far as I can tell. I'll post pics a little later.

What you are describing is probably a police trade in. Carried (and battered) a lot, but only shot when forced to qualify. Typically these are very good buys as the cosmetic problems are easily remedied at low cost. In addition the 4006 is a real tank of a pistol(I have one). Usually good shooters and are just about unnreakable. I have put about 6,500 rounds through mine and although I replaced recoil spring at 5,000, I kept the old spring as it is just as strong as when I replaced it. You will really like that pistol.

Finally remembered my password to photobucket...

This pic was taken BEFORE I cleaned it - and yes, it was FILTHY. I just did a real good cleaning as if returning from the range, but I really need to take off the grips and get this thing cleaned up - anyone have a link to a manual for this thing?

Anyway - RANGE REPORT!!

Just got back from the range - put 50 rounds through it and LOVED it. Managed a few dead center in the target. Mind you, I'm a total rookie. I've put maybe 1000 rounds in paper, all but 100 with a Ruger P89 9mm. Fifty went through the 4006 and 50 went through a Sig P230 9mm short (380).

This 4006 is well broke in - seems like its had more rounds through it than I thought, but it seems fairly accurate. I put a lot of holes low and right in the paper, which sort of is like a big ole flashing sign that says I'm jerking the trigger (which I am).

Also this is my first time shooting beyond ten feet - I'm guessing it was 20 or 25 feet - I didn't ask, though. I have about 1500 rounds of 9mm, 40S&W, and 380 to shoot, so I'm sure I'll get the hang of it before too long.

Practice makes perfect, so they say. I am never likely to reach perfection, but practice sure is fun!
