There is one of you.

There are twenty of them.

They are armed with MAC 10 45 ACP SMGs.

You are armed with an American 180 22LR SMG, with laser sights and ONE 177-round drum magazine.

Would you feel confident in the outcome?

They don't know exactly where you are, and you know, pretty much, where they are, so you have the advantage of sneaking up on 'em. This is not full-out "battle".

But still, would you be happy with that gun choice?

If they have one mag each and it's dark and I have night vision, I'm good to go. MAC 10s in .45 are a bit of a handfull. Not terribly accurate either.

Oh, I'd like a suppressor too, please!

I would prefer a good scoped 22 if I had to settle for a 22. But if they are kinda scattered out, I believe I could come out ahead, especially if I knew the terrain and could sneak up on them a few at a time. After knocking off a couple of them, I would also have a couple of 45ACP submachine guns for close work. Of course I grew up in the country and still live in the mountains of E. TN, and I'm a pretty darn good shot. That would work in my favor.

nope ... the first burst would give away my position, suppressed or not. that leaves 9 mags of 45 to address the error of my ways.
thats the kind of fix you should opt for an egress rather than an engagement. At least until you can get yourself several hundred yards out behind a TRG 21 where distance gives you an honest chance.

Suppressor for sure even I needed to make one. A 22lr is better than a rock and string. I could do it.

This is a book. The hero has been captured and taken to an island, where he was imprisoned. He escaped last night and took with him the guard's gun - the aforemention AM180. No spare ammo. No silencer. Just the loaded gun. What he knows of the terrain he has learned from his one night in the jungle.

The guards (the bad guys) have been on the island for several years. Logic says they know it.

The hero just seemed SO HAPPY that the gun he ended up with was a AM 180, instead of a MAC, like all the other guards carry.

Now, I would rather have the "22, easy to shoot, carbine-size gun with 177 rounds" than a "45, pain in the butt to shoot, pistol-size gun with 30 rounds", but I don't think I'd be jumping with joy over that choice.

If 22 men are hunting me and I know where they are and they dont know where I am, I am getting out of there! (Unless they are scattered a long ways apart). I also belive most normal sane people would too. I quit reading comic books 60 years ago.

You're obviously unfamiliar with the rules. There are two options after shooting badguys.

1. Totally ignore their weapons and bandoleers of ammo. At most grab the weapon that's just been emptied in your direction and take off, leaving the spare ammo.

2. Place your own weapon well out of your reach, turn your back on one downed badguy & futz around with goodguy/badguy (whatever). Under no circumstances should you pay any attention to any weapons on the downed badguy.

A related rule is that when you come across an obvious crime scene you must grab whatever weapon is next to the body & hold/handle it untill cops arrive & see you with the body & weapon.

Saw an interesting comment on that scenario, many years back. Matt Helm? Maybe. Anyway, the guy says, "You walk into a room and there's a dead man with a gun lying beside him and you're unarmed. Of course you pick up the gun. The killer might still be there."

Made sense to me.

No.

The one I shot jammed a lot. Was using the "right" ammo for it too.
I hear they can be made reliable but now have some doubts on that score.

I think I would rather have a good pair of felony shoes (sneakers) so I could "run like the wind" away from that situation.

"There is one of you": I am proudly and narcissistically happy about this. Nothing like being unique!

"There are twenty of them.": I am worried about this, unless they are close friends or relatives in good standing, whomever "them" may be, as I am at least outnumbered...

"They are armed with MAC 10 45 ACP SMGs.": They may be ill-armed, inadequately armed, but they are armed nonetheless...

"You are armed with an American 180 22LR SMG, with laser sights and ONE 177-round drum magazine.
Would you feel confident in the outcome?": Yes, very confident --- I would flee, with extreme alacrity.

"But still, would you be happy with that gun choice?": Obviously not. I don't know anything about the mentioned firearm, which makes me suspicious of it's capabilities right off the bat, and in any event, the odds are stacked against the defender in this scenario, nevermind his equipment or ammo supply...

Pray, allow me to edumakate you.

This was a 22LR Sub Machine Gun. It was about a long as an M1 Carbine. It used a 177-round drum magazine that sat on top of it, like a Lewis gun. It had a laser in the forearm - the first laser-sighted gun I'd ever heard of. It has a selector switch, so you have the option of semi-auto fire.

20-1? Not very good odds no matter how you're armed. Custer was only outnumbered something like 3-1 and look how that turned out. The scenario you set up sounds like the perfect time to remember you have pressing business...in another country!
