The reason that occurred to me first is that people unknowledgeable of firearms generally might not be aware of where model name stops and brand name begins.

That's probably it. Years ago when I lived in St. Louis, there was a shooting at a court house. The shooter used a revolver the media described as "a Taurus Brazil" handgun. They saw "Taurus" on one side of the barrel and "Brazil" on the other so they thought that was its Make / Model.

Deliberate Marketing

For the simpletons it sounds like Luger. Add Assault Rifle and we get a home run.

Bill Ruger legally changed his original Polish last name to "Ruger" deliberately because of it sounding like "Luger" as a marketing ploy to give his design of a .22 LR handgun more name recognition. This was before he and Strum publicly formed their firearm manufacturing company. So, there are unintended consequences to marketing ploys. .....

I remember enjoying that show. They sure were terrible shots, though. They fired thousands of rounds in every show, but never hit anyone.

In case you've never fired a mini 14, that is actually a pretty accurate portrayal of the rifle.

Not once did we read the name of the manufacturer of the rental truck used in NYC to run-over people a couple weeks ago.

It was a Home Depot high-power assault truck loaded with magazines in the back. It is also a reason for more gun control because the media is reporting the the airsoft was actually driving the truck.

Methinks you are being goofed on here. Bill Ruger was not Polish, he was German... and the name Ruger goes way back in Germany, at least hundreds of years. If old Bill has Polish roots somewhere hidden way back in his family tree, it's going to take some serious research to find them.

Similarly, a news junkie--but I have increasingly restricted my caloric intake. As of the last election I hadn't watched anything on TV for years, except for Fox news. Halfway through the electoral process I just quit wasting an hour every day and quit cold turkey. I picked up the slack with the internet, and now I'm down to scanning lucianne.com for anything of interest, and then going over to the Instapundit blog. After two cups of coffee I'm done.

Frankly being a history buff gives me way more insight as to what's going on (and what might happen next) than the blathering heads anyway.

We should BAN Toyota Pick-up Trucks since the Terrorist in NYC used one to mow down 8 people and injure more. They are very dangerous you know. Not Fords or Chevy's - just Toyota's since they make people do these things.

If you really need to know, all you have to do is look at the many published photographs of the truck.

It's a Ford F250, a Home Depot rental truck with Home Depot's logo on the doors and tailgate.

Far as I'm concerned, it's totally irrelevant.

Heck, CNN's story has changed a dozen times. First they didn't mention the good guy. Then they claimed he "scared" the shooter off. Then they claimed that the "autopsy shows" but then the sheriff said there was no autopsy yet so CNN had to change the story again. They have trouble acknowledging that a law-abiding citizen, not a SUPER cop, shot and stopped an ongoing murder spree. At this point they are claiming that the shooter suicided but the good guy says he shot him 3 times - once to the neck-head region. We'll see once the facts are actually in but at this point all the lame-stream media have gotten it wrong in serial fashion and the theme of their errors is oddly anti-good guy with a gun effectively intervening........

I would not trust CNN to tell me the day of the week, the time of day, or the temperature.

Also, there is very little press about the civilian hero who stopped the killer's psychotic, murderous rampage, by using the hero's own personal firearm.

There was a "talking head" which mentioned the person who used his own gun to stop the shooter. His final comment was, "statistics show that a person owning a gun is most likely to be killed by that gun."

I do believe that the Ruger AR's are made in NORTH Carolina. Thy set up in textile factories that had gone under and brought work back to the area.

The Ruger Standard, MK 1 and MK2 design is kinda based on the form of the Japanese Nambu with just a tad more quality.
